12, and most of those I've only really learned since studying law - specifically government and parliament stuff. The rest is ridiculous. How many school days in a year? Surely only Daily Mail reading parents would know the answer to that?

It's just further proof that these Whitehall bellends don't live in the real world.

I got 14. Some of those were debateable, I'd say. Can you attend a hospital without a doctor's note if it's not an emergency? Yes, absolutely. I do so on a fortnightly basis. I may have originally had a doctor's note, but that's beside the point. Also, visitors etc. And you can totally hide from trick or treaters.

I did not know that the Monarch had to marry a Protestant, mind.

17 out of 24. Some of those were a little iffy. In question 23 all of the answers were potentially correct, in real life.

Very odd questions, mind.

WTF? How did you not know that? The monarch is the head of the church of england, so can't marry anyone who isn't a proddy, and especially so if they're catholic.

Why not? The Monarch's consort isn't the head of the CofE.

Fuxache - think it through.

Example-

King marries a pretty Jewish lady.
King and Queen have a kid. Kid is Jewish. Kid is heir to the throne but, constitutionally, can't be as it's a Jew.

Kid is only Jewish by silly rules that associate Jewishness and lineage.

Well no, actually. It's the only example which actually works. In every other religion your kid isn't automatically X just because one of the parents are.

Actually, of course, under the Act of Settlement it's just Catholics. Not Jews or Muslims or Hindus.

So the quiz is slightly misleading - I assume they're trying to be inclusive.

Isn't Camilla Catholic. Or Kate Middleton? I'm sure I read that the Catholic thing had been, in the great British tradition of such things, worked around for one of them.

I got 13. Obviously the article will have picked the most ridiculous/obscure questions possble though to "stimulate debate" (or "mislead" if you prefer), in practice I'm sure if you sat the test you'd get 3 or 4 questions like that and a lot of super easy or at least sensible and relevant stuff that we'd all get right in our sleep and easily make the 75% pass mark.

This is wrong, as you can go to the hospital with a letter from a consultant who isn't a GP.

13 but the article is wrong. You don't have to pass the citizenship test to obtain a British passport you can take combined English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and citizenship classes instead which I am sure we would all do well in.

A lot of that one did seem really obscure. I had a go at the four examples for the Australian citizenship test and got 18 out of 20 without any particular effort. I think the two I got wrong were about the Governor-General and probably the one about which arm of government does what (something I feel I probably ought to know, but have never really mustered up enthusiasm to go and find out - or maybe I just forgot after being told it).
