So, yeah, if you've not seen it, stop reading.

Okay?

Good.

I was hoping they'd twist it again at the end.

Yes. But my reading of the final line is that he was cured, and willingly chose a lobotomy rather than live with his guilt.

It was a good film, but I saw the ending coming a mile off. DiCaprio's performance was excellent though. I need to watch it again.

I agree with statement one.

MrsA agrees with both.

I don't see endings nor twists coming, ever, as I like surprises. Watching stuff with mrsA sucks in this regard.

Nor me -- this was a rare exception.

I actually though the ending in the film was more satisfactory than the book. The book makes the ending a lot less obvious than the film did but those few extra lines at the end added in the film make for a more redemptive ending without diluting any of the foregoing shenanigans.

Me, too. I watched Shutter Island on an aeroplane and really, really enjoyed it.

Shit, you're right. That film was totally crap and actually I hated it and just thinking about it makes me want to die. God, how awfully embarrassing to have so fundamentally misinterpreted my own feelings.

DiCaprio's been hitting it out of the park lately - Inception, Shutter Island, The Departed.

I'm glad you've finally seen things my way. The whole world is wrong and is in need of correction!

Look in your signature. And ignore 'recently' (like you did for The Departed).

I also very much enjoyed The Beach, The Aviator and Catch me if you can.

Although possibly they sucked and I am faulty.

Awaiting re-nirejheducation ;)

Haven't see The Beach, Aviator was quite good actually despite Mr Crappio and Catch Me was pretty average.

Romeo and Juliet I thought was an excellent film. I'm quite sure Crappio had nothing to do with that though. I'm also sure Claire Danes had a lot to do with it. And the cool direction and stuff. I haven't seen it in years but I wonder if my opinion would change now.

The Beach wasn't a bad film. But it was an opportunity missed, also, Ewan McGregor should have been in it, as he'd have been better but Boyle sold out to Hollywood. In turn, the fall out between the two means that Porno will never be made, which is a damned shame.

Plus, the life as a computer game scene was unnecessary and a part of the book that could easily have been skipped or interpreted differently. However, any film with Virginie Ledoyen in it gets a big two thumbs up from me.

I didn't enjoy The Beach as a film. I do think di caprio is fairly good as an actor, though, and rarely in a bad film. Unlike McGregor.

Watched this tonight and found it really nasty in parts (dead kid bits).
Think its safe to say he is Andrew Leidiss but it woulda been awesome if it was another twist at the end.

There is a twist at the end. It's that he's cured but chooses lobotomy anyway. There seems to be debate about this online, founded on the book's rather more open ending, but the way DiCaprio delivers his closing lines left no ambiguity for me.

Exactly! I think the fact that it's in the top 5 films of all time on imdb proves my point entirely.

I really wanted that to be the case too.
