Well theres never been a better time to start dreaming of seeing red gems again.

The DS version is 'online now'

Image

And has clocked up an :

8.5 from IGN : http://ds.ign.com/articles/110/1100549p1.html
8.0 from Joystiq : http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/25/revie ... uest-2-ds/

The XBLA version arrives later this week

And has a 9.0 from IGN : http://uk.xboxlive.ign.com/articles/110/1100546p1.html

After having a quick faff around with the DS version it seems nice , there are new weapons which charge up using a 'gauntlet' gem , new twists on the game e.g. putting out a fire requires you to keep matching blue gems whereas if you accidentally match red it 'heals' the fire

Choice of character at the start is Barbarian / Sorcerer / Assassin / Templar and you can be male or female , spell and weapons are much easier to see and use than previous versions.

Instead of the overhead map you get an isometric view - although the few levels of the map i've seen its still as linear as before and it wants you to 'wait' until its displayed the options on the screen before allowing you to click on them which seems a little odd.

If you liked the previous versions worth a look

Dear Zaphod,

You're a dick and I will hate you so much when this comes out on the iPhone.

Sincerely, Malabar.

I don't think it's actually particularly good, and it's certainly quite a poor port*. But, I can't put it down when I get in the mood to play it.

*or crap to begin with. I haven't played any other versions. But it's clunky as hell, especially moving around the map.

:hat:

It is a very poor port , the DS version is amazing and i put weeks worth of time into it.
When the XBLA one came out I managed to avoid it until it was one of the 'deals of the week' and i bought it and went about 3/4s of the way though it again.
A few weeks ago when the iphone version was down to 'free' i got it , and have played a few levels but it doesnt quite feel right , its almost like it was a proof of concept to show they could do it on the iphone.

Odd. The iPhone one and the XBLA one feel identical to me.

I played a fair bit of Puzzle quest on xbox when I bought it.

Tellingly, the idea of actually playing it more now makes me feel a little physically ill. That's not the sign of a good game.

I've only played the iPhone version, and thought it was excellent.

Patch is my hero.

I couldn't get into the first one. I found the questing too fiddly and the puzzling too boring. Sorry.

I've never played Puzzle Quest before so thought I give it a quick go in bed last night.

1:30 Zaphod. I was up to 1:30.

Puzzle Quest is horribly unbalanced, ridiculously repetitive, has awful music, and is utter digital crack. I played more than 50 hours of it in less than three weeks. I was dreaming of gems.

It's now my most played game on my iPod touch.

It annoys me how the Enemies portraits are clipped off at the bottom of the pre fight screen, I guess thats a screen ratio issue.

Yeah, as others have said, the iPhone version is a rather sloppy port of the DS. Some of the graphics are fuzzy too, where they were drawn as pixel art for the DS's resolution then resized for the iPhone.

Was that until you passed out , or did someone cut it out of your hand while you were still awake ?

It *is* digital crack.

I used to see skulls when I closed my eyes. No way I'm touching PQ2 until I've got more free time on my hands - I value my sleep at the moment.

It frequently has graphical glitches, too, requiring a full program restart and crossed fingers to fix. It really is a crappy piece of shit, but the idea is nice, and it's addictive as hell.

I found a similar game the other day, thanks to Rev Owen pointing me towards Apple's top list of games: Sword & Poker II. It's another RPG dungeon-crawler, but the battles are decided by puzzles based on poker hands instead of bejewelled. It's quite a lot of fun, much better looking, a lot less buggy, and exactly as addictive.

Same here. Where other people couldn't seem to stop playing, I could never seem to summon up the energy to start.

So, let's be clear. Both WTB and myoptika never liked Puzzle Quest, and really like Dead Rising, particularly the repetitive restarting.

Your opinion-having priviliges have been revoked, both of you.
