finally bought an hd tv, in the sense that now celine is moving out, i got some new stuff... especially love my apple tv, putting our iplayer (missed transmission) via macbook on the big screen, watching a [completely paid - ed] stream of Parma - Roma...

but for here: what's the most HDy game there is, and is also good, bought fifa 13, and kind of feel i have a new console..\

I continue to be stunned at people playing an entire generation of games on an SD TV. :D

Anyway, to my knowledge no Xbox games run at anything above 720p* so it really doesn't make much difference what you choose. If you've got a PS3 though there are a limited selection of games that run at full 1080p so those would be the most H-est of D I suppose. I know that the Wipeout game on PSN is one of them (and from personal experience it does look very nice) but I can't find a list of the others at the moment; maybe someone else has a source for that?

*The actual Xbox dashboard happily runs at and reports as 1080p but the games themselves aren't as far as I know.

Some 360 games render in 1080p.

Fifa Street 3, Sacred 2: Fallen Angel & Virtua Tennis 3 for example.

There's a bit more on the PS3 though.

Edit: Check here

Edit: Although for my money, I'd forget about the resolution and just pick up some beautiful games. Rez HD, Mirror's Edge, Vanquish, The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, the various Crysis games, Metro 2033, Pixeljunk Games, Flower, Journey, Stacking, Killzone 2/3 and Rayman Origins are some that stick out as being nice looking games to me.

Well I'd forget about resolution, just pick the prettiest looking games. Here's that list again but only with Xbox ones:

Rez HD, Mirror's Edge, Vanquish, The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, the various Crysis games, Metro 2033, Stacking and Rayman Origins.

Edit: Oh, El Shaddai too.

When I got my first HD telly I forgot to change the resolution on the Xbox and was having to try really hard to convince myself of how much better it looked when inside I was thinking that it actually looked worse and I'd just wasted £450. Imagine my delight when I realised and changed the setting.

Fair enough, I did wonder if my info was out of date here.

As for picking generally pretty games, which is indeed a good strategy, the games over the last few years that wowed me from a purely visual perspective were Mirror's Edge also (although I did play it on the PC), Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (which I never entirely got on with but was undeniably gorgeous), Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, Journey, Uncharted 3, Outland, Arkham City, Alan Wake and Bayonetta. Some of them due to the visual design more than because they had like higher quality textures than normal or whatever, but still stuff that'll look good without the smear of SD on your screen!

I'm just going to say Mirror's Edge again, because Mirror's Edge.

It certainly looks nicer on PC, but it's still beautiful on consoles.

It's ace - it's like I got twice as many games all of a sudden.

I appreciated it most by going to other way once. Our Xbox has always lived at Mrs B's in the days before we lived together as she's got a nicer flat than me so our only experience was playing it via her HDTV. At one point we had to spend a couple of days at my flat for reasons I can't remember and we plugged the Xbox into my older SDTV only to be genuinely fucking appalled at how awful everything looked. That memory stays with me which is why I'm always amazed at the number of people who have no idea how good their games are actually supposed to look.

It must be fucking excellent the day you set it all up with your new TV though; you instantly get a surprise next-gen upgrade that the rest of us will need to wait for the release of the 720 to experience! ;)

A list of great-looking games and no-one's mentioned Bioshock? For shame.

I remember when I got an HDTV and like everyone else, was amazed at the sharpness. I then bought a component lead for my Wii and was less than impressed.
