Many years ago I had a utility that let you play TZX files into a real Speccy. In order to play Jumpin Jack on my real Speccy (due to control woes) I've just gone in search of such a utility but have hit a wall.

Anyone know of a handy dandy utility that can do this that will work on modern hardware? The utility I found was ancient and wouldn't run on a modern Mac and wanted DOS on the PC (from where I'm sure the soundcard won't work on Windows 7).

Windows is fine as I have a PC next to the Speccy.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

PlayTZX mac port? ftp://ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sincl ... 12b.tar.gz Or is that the one that doesn't work.

There's also utils on there for converting to a WAV file which you can then play with whatever. HTH

Yep, doesn't work.

I had considered the WAV conversion route but was hoping someone had written a handy dandy player.

I'd probably try the wave file route , then burn it to a dvd , and load it on the speccy from DVD :metul:

Great, got one. Just a drag and drop conversion. Now to wire up the Speccy and try it!

Just load it in an emulator and play the tape loading sounds that way? Such as ZXSpin allow realtime loading.

I have the Revo available next to the Speccy. So I can try that.

Haven't fired up either of the Speccys for at least 6 years so wish me luck!

Is there any way to do such things with a speccy +2?

Fettle some audio leads to the connector between the main board and the tape player. This is why +3's are so much better.

That said I've just had to unplug the floppy drive as the belt must have gone and the computer never gets as far as seeing there is no disc in the drive, so no tape loading. Unplug drive and problem solved.

Game loaded. Hoorah!

Now I'm reminded why I don't run original Speccy hardware.

The TV picture is shit (fixable with an RGB lead) but the +3 also distorts the audio horribly making the entire experience awful.

Sounds, how to put this, completely worth it? No, wait, the other one! :)

Well to be honest the point of it was to get around the control problems on Jumping Jack (it didn't) but also to have played a challenge game on original hardware.

The Speccy 128 is clearly the best. Though I'll always be fond of the +2. I've got a +D disk drive, I wonder if it still works.

Will probably need a new belt. Should only cost a quid or so + postage. Do not use an elastic band as they can foul the mechanism.
