To me, that looks like just about the best thing ever. Lots to do and lovely, colourful graphics. (That will look a bit shite on my LCD.)

It's a shame it only comes with one MotionPlus sensor, because adding another one makes it very expensive indeed.

I fucking love the first one.

I am "meh" about this until I have a go. The first one was great for three days, or when people came around who hadn't played before, but it got very dull very fast.
Mind you, if the controller does what they say it does (and strongly suggested it did when it first came out, the lying cunts) it will help.

:this:, except for fewer than three days

Quite. The demonstrations they showed looked pretty similar to the demonstrations they showed for the wii originally, and that wasn't half what they claimed it was. I am a bit dubious that that little block is going to add too terribly much to its capabilities.

I think it may depend on your circumstances. I lived in a flat of 6 when I got Wii Sports and we must have put hundreds of hours into it. Played it for months.

The most I've ever played. It's a bowling ally in my living room for bloomin sake.

Try standing on the right and spinning the ball into the right-hand gutter ;)

Except that in a bowling alley, I get 1/3 of the score I get in wii bowling, as it's an over-easy represntation of bowling.

I have two 'Motionplus' things for my Wii now. They stop the controller fitting in the charger, fuxsake. I hope I can get this game without having to get another motionplus thing.

0% interested, frankly. Wii sports was interesting for a very short time.

Judging by the eurogamer 'extra' piece, they still haven't got the motion controls working properly. Having to regulary recalibrate the controls sounds like they're still screwed.

Yes.

Table tennis is the best thing about it - they should re-make Rockstar Table tennis with these controls.

Cycling is rubbish, flying a plane is novel but you just wish for normal controls after a while, Sword fighting is about who can flick their wrist the fastest (apart from the speed slice - which is aces), frisbee is good when it works but a bit hit and miss, Bowling and golf are as they were in Wii Sports, Jet Ski-ing and Wakeboarding are frustrating and throwaway, basketball I am rubbish at but it could be good if I was less pants.

You have to recalibrate the controller fairly often but it's not massively tedious and you get to chop shit up with swords so overall a B+ from me so far.

You get the 100 pin jobbie only now it's 10 frames of 100 pins which is tedious and some spin bowling challenge which I haven't bothered with. Oh and for Grandmas there's a new "automatic" mode where you don't have to let go of "B" to throw the ball.

OOOH forgot - the archery is fucking mint. There's something really satisfying about the arrow thudding in to the target. The pretend bow and arrow of the Wiimote and nunchuck affords it an extra layer of realism that you can't really explain - it just feels right.

I absolutely love this game. Love it. I even like the cycling event, which has otherwise been universally panned. Pretty much everything is brilliant except for the jetski (the controls seem a bit off to me - maybe it's because you have to hold the controllers at a rakish angle) and perhaps wakeboarding, which is fine but there's not too much to it. The table tennis in particular is superb.

played the game yesterday, and absolutely loving it.

- table tennis could let you forget you're not actually playing table tennis
- cycling is fun, more than just repeating the movement, but steering, using airadvantages, not overdoing it
- frisbee is hard!
- sword fighting has very good controls, but haven't been playing long enough to encounter any serious opposition.Kayak i haven't been yet,

and just thought i forgot to post about archery,

man, although i would like it to be more than just hitting target (maybe it is, i only had an hours time to play WSR yesterday), but the feeling of the bow and arrouw is so amazing, it feels so right.

wakeboarding is doing tricks for points, which is funnish, but not sure about the depth of the tricks yet, maybe some amazing youtube vids will arrive soon..

oh and sky diving is just cheerful and fun do do, sega blue sk's etc. and serves as a great opening

Highly enjoying the golf and the archery so far. Unlocked the Disc Golf and that was great as well.

Disappointed that the main point of the skydiving is the formation stuff and not the actual landing like on the old Pilotwings games where you would frantically "steer" round to try and get a good position ahead of a landing.

my review as submitted to the site

It is a good Italian Tradition to write the name of the cycling "Campionissimo" you support on road where the Giro or Tour passes. Even 5 years after his dead, you will find Pantani's name written down. And Myself, coming from an old cycling country have always dreamt to see my name written down on the streets of the Gavia or the Galibier.

You can imagine how great it felt when playing the much-criticised cycling event on Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo, €49 incl WMP) and to see my name on the streets leading to the top of the mountains on Hulu island - the resort in the title. Added to normal Mii-support (my wife in the audience, Osama as my basketball team mate), I felt at home.

Not many reviewers really understood Wii Sports. They complained about the lack of depth. For them "Depth" was the addition of lots of options to be tweaked, or a table or two. But the depth of Wii Sports was in allowing to constantly improve yourself, by giving you many different opponents.

And this depth has transferred to WSR, and to that it adds an island to link the sports together, and giving them a common theme. You skydive onto it, you wakeboard next to it, or you cycle through its villages and mountains. Furthermore it adds a lot of new sports.

And the greatness of these new sports, all implented in very different ways, while being true to the nature of the sport they represent, is another thing where WSR shines. There are not many more satisfying feelings, then waving your improved wiimote like someone from Kill Bill. You are almost like a conductor, waving your Hanzo sword around while chopping the hordes.

Archery is another highlight. The feedback of your bow has to be experienced. Table Tennis makes you forget you are plaing on a console. Cycling is fun, because it is both tactics (recuperation behind other cyclist) and exercise. Wakeboarding makes you cheerful. Kayakking does the resistance of water impressively. And all those things are even more fun in multiplayer.

Sure I would like overall statistics, online play, and online tables, but as a true Wii game, as a sequel, and as multi-player experience, it is amazing. And for making on of my old dreams comes true, it deserves a statue.

Ranking: A 4.5/5

Wii Sports Resort allows you to experience sports you never did, and therefore makes dreamers happy, while providing multiplayer fun for the rest of us

The control is utterly broken on many of the sports. The Wave Race-style Wave Runner stands out as the worst offender, as does the crapness of Cycling. There's the archery, aircraft and swordplay with control reasonably nicely are entertaining enough, but they are too shallow to provide any real longevity for WSR, and don't make up for all the bad elements.

Mmm. The swordplay seemed to go along the lines of attack, attack, attack. Oh, I've lost sync. Press down to recalibrate (having lost two lives)
The Table tennis seemed entirely unsure as to whether I was attempting a forehand or backhand.
The aircraft boost seemed to work one in every twenty attempts.
etc etc

I didn't play one game that didn't feel fundamentally broken.

Seemed like the same woolly controls you'd get without the wii motion plus. Certainly not the 1:1 nintendo claimed. Then again, it's not the first time they've lied about the capabilities of the hardware. (Or stolen my star points)

If someone could organise these thoughts into five or so sentences I could stick on in the 'second opinion' of romanista's (A rated) review.

My shot at this...

The control is disturbingly 'broken' on many of the sports in practice, in terms of reliability and responsiveness. The Wave Race-style Wave Runner stands out as the worst offender with its, as does Cycling, which their frustratingly hit-and-miss in terms of their reaction to the player's movements. The archery, aircraft and swordplay with control reasonably nicely are entertaining enough, but they are too shallow to provide any real longevity to Wii Sports Resort, and don't make up for the numerous drawbacks. Overall, the game in conjunction with the new hardware add-on it seems like the same woolly controls you'd get without the Wii Motion Plus, so certainly not the 1:1 Nintendo claimed. Then again, it's not the first time they've lied about the capabilities of the hardware, or stolen Star Points from beleaguered gamers...

You see, I'd say that swordplay was by far and away the worst offender for controls. Had to constantly hit down on the d-pad, so that the sword matched up with what I was doing for another 3 or four movements.

Ever the early adopter, I got this a couple of days ago.
I like the archery a lot, bowling is slightly improved (extra voices and better control of the ball), golf has lost something with the lack of simplicity, I think. The control on sword fighting and table tennis felt to random to me. I've not tried cycling, wave running or air sports (or whatever it's called).
While the whole thing is shiny and jolly, underneath it all is still the fact that the controller doesn't work well enough for this sort of thing. And, on top of that, you have to put it down constantly (as others have said) to make it work again.

I actually quite like the Table Tennis. I've not had any issues with the controls on it (but have on most of the other games, where is the consistancy on the three point Basket ball contest??) and am around skill level 1500 now. Just one guy i can never beat.

Not had any problems with the controller either.. only once or twice have I had to put it on a flat surface to recalibrate. I did wonder if it was just asking that on a regular basis, whether it needed recalibrating or not.

I've been enjoying it a lot anyway, but then I needed a break from bloody Condemned 2, so anything with a bit of sunshine was welcome.

I like WSR, especially the bowling and table tennis. As mentioned though, the controller really isn't suitable for some of the games, many of which would benefit greatly if a standard controller could be used.

£24.85 for Sports Resort and a Motion Plus. Seems a good price.
