Look at that list of the top ten songs played at funerals. Dear God. If anyone decided to stick on Celine Dion while I was being planted, being terrorised to the point of insanity by my restless shade would be too good for them.

So, what choon would you like to go in the ground to? Much as Living In A Box or The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown would appeal (depending on method of disposal), personally it would have to be Winter by Tori Amos. It's an astonishingly beautiful song, it's about the mutability of existance and, most importantly, I wouldn't be around to be embarassed by the enormous self-indulgance of the choice.

I want "I'll See You When You Get There" by Coolio. The wife is under firm instruction that it gets played.

The theme tune from Minder. I'd like to think people had assumed that I'd asked for the theme from The Bodyguard but the undertaker had got it wrong.

Oh and this, natch:

Not sure to be honest, I do, however, want people to wear jeans and a jumper or t-shirt and shorts (or t-shirt and jeans) as opposed to suits and stuff.

A friend of mine who died a few years ago had requested in her will "But I feel good" by Groove Armada as her last song. No-one knew except a select few. After a very teary humanist ceremony, the curtains started to close and this cheery, bouncy calypso inspired tune bursts forth. No-one could help but smile through the tears. Man that's the sort of effect I want :)

Oh. Fair enough then. It's in my MP3 library as Metallica.

I'd probably choose 'Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)' over that.

"Underground" by Ben Folds Five.

Or something equally inappropriate.

"Going Underground" would also work, as would "The Road to Hell", "Firestarter", or even "Hell" by the Squirrel Nut Zippers.

It's just more me. Good Riddance is one of the greatest songs ever written like, ever. But it's too sad and emotional.

The beginning of Footballer's Wives series 2, or maybe 3, did this wonderfully for Chardonnay's funeral.

incidentally, if anyone can find series 1 and 2 on dvd for me, i'd be most happy.

I'd pick something by Million Dead on the slight offchance that I'd get more people into them.

Or 'Waiting Room' by Fugazi.

I know they did. But it's an Anti-Nowhere League song, therefore it's not "by" them.

My final words just before I am executed after the prolatariat rise up and overthrow my government will be:

"Hang on lads, i'd like to sing a song...

One million, four hundred and twenty thousand five hundred and fiftyfour green bottles, sitting on wall"

To me, Good Riddance is one of the most plastic and fake songs ever written from a time of mainstream stagnation.

I used to say I'd have the theme from the Generation Game. But reading this thread makes me want "Fistfucking God's Planet" by Marduk instead.

"Minister for the Interior" if you don't mind. And I was going to give that post to KC, and have Mr Chris be Head of the Judiciary.

Along those lines how about the theme from Terry & June...jaunty.

'My Nation Underground' Julian Cope or more obviously 'Highway to Hell' ACDC.

Well, the reasoning was that I'd want a toaster, a coffee maker and a cuddly toy put into the flames before me.

This would be a good one.

Quote:
Well it's been ten years and a thousand tears
And look at the mess I'm in
A broken nose and a broken heart,
An empty bottle of gin
Well I sit and I pray
In my broken down Chevrolet
While I'm singin' to myself
There's got to be another way

[Chorus:]
Take away, take away
Take away this ball and chain
Well I'm lonely and I'm tired
And I can't take any more pain
Take away, take away
Never to return again
Take away, take away
Take away
Take away this ball and chain

Well I've searched and I've searched
To find the perfect life
A brand new car and a brand new suit
I even got me a little wife
But wherever I have gone
I was sure to find myself there
You can run all your life
But not go anywhere

[Chorus:]
Take away, take away
Take away this ball and chain
Well I'm sick and I'm tired
And I can't take any more pain
Take away, take away
Never to return again
Take away, take away
Take away
Take away this ball and chain

Well I'll pass the bar on the way
To my dingy hotel room
I spent all my money
I've been drinkin' since half past noon
Well I'll wake there in the mornin'
Or maybe in the county jail
Times are hard getting harder
I'm born to lose and destined to fail

I'd probably go for one of two Black Sabbath songs. 'Solitude' done by Cathedral or Pantera's version of 'Planet Caravan'

I'd have 'Baby Elephant Walk' with The Internets Richard Gaywood rapping all my BeeX WeeX mentions over the top.
