ATTENTION.

My housemate Kieron has finally got Eggs Box Live Arcade. :D

Explain in simple step by step instructions what I should do to play you lot. I guess I should get a headphone ma-jig to start with. Tchaw. Can I just use my existing profile on his machine to play you with?

Games what he has got which multiplay good:

Crackdown
L4D & L4D2
CoD MW (but I don't think he has the second one)
Red Faction: Guerilla
Army of Two
Halo's 1, 2 & 3

(And a bundle of others that I can't remember, but I'll update the list.)

Search for 'Chinny' and 'Xbox'. He's just got one himself and we talked him through getting that online.

Uh-oh, why?

Looks like its going to have to be cumbersome 'run-ethernet-cable-down-the-hallway' when I want to play then.

Couldn't find any Chinny X-Box instructions with that search, Myp. Also, can I use my own Profile via Kieron's live account? Or do I have to use his? ?:|

gaming over wireless is never a great idea and they seem to drop voice packets all the time as well.

a cable is a lot more reliable!

plus once it's pinned down you won't even notice the cable.

I use wireless and it's never been a problem.

Each user needs a Gold account, so you'll either have to pay for your own or use his. Sharing accounts is never ideal, though.

Yeah, plenty of people I know use wireless without many problems. I think it can depend on the luck of the draw, things like whether your neighbours are using analogue devices on 2.4GHz, such as video senders and the like. It's hard to pin down issues with wireless sometimes and a cable is a safer bet wherever possible but wireless shouldn't be written off as a complete non-starter for gaming.

Hmm, reckon I'll share his until I've got the brass to buy my own, then. I covet the Gamertag.

Remember when you're playing online, only the person with the Live subscription can talk*, as far as I'm aware. This obviously won't be a problem if you never play online together.

*You can have other people on your Xbox play online as your guest, showing up with gamertags like 'NervousPete(1)' etc.

Neat. Do they have to be playing at the same time, thus robbing me of voice-ramble-fun?

Whichever user account you buy the Live account for gets to play online with no restrictions. Anybody else playing on that Xbox at the same time can join the game as a guest of the account holder, but unable to speak, and assuming the account name convention I mentioned.

If you want to play online on that Xbox alone, you'll have to sign in using the profile tied to the Live subscription.

I have Halo 3 so will be able to shoot you in the head.

Getting it online was easy. I just plugged the cable in and it worked. Halo winges about NAT but still works fine.

The wireless adaptor hasn't arrived yet so cannot comment on that.

Your Xbox will have a free months membership of Gold, but it will try and trick you into paying for a year. If you select Silver it will then give you one month of Gold.

Plus, Halo 1 came out before live, so isn't live enabled. Halo 2 is an original xbox game.

So if you're looking for live multiplayer, those probably aren;t your best bets.

Get ODST or 3. ODST includes the multiplayer of 3, with all the DLC included (Including 3 ODST exclusive maps)

You miss out on the awesome Halo 3 coop campaign that way, although ODST has its own, along with the firefight mode.

Yes, it will do, until you try to play with someone else who has a strict or moderate NAT setup, then it won't play so nice. Your best bet is just to put the 360 into your router's DMZ.

I got a free month, and didn't use it. As no one eelse really had an xbox in mid 2006. It was a good year and a half until Bezzie gaming got started.

I did get live at some point before then to play GoW with a Grim... though.

Its designed to screw you over.

Startup eggsbox , to go online you really need gold do you want gold ?
<If you select you want Silver>
Are you sure , Gold is so much better and look at all the stuff you'll miss out on
<if you select you want Silver>
Fill in all these details but really you'll want to have gold
<if you select you want Silver>
Oh all right , here have a month of Gold free because then you'll actually pay for it and not really want Silver.

Its probably the most cynical bit of marketing I've ever seen and I bet it catches loads of people out who are then paying for that first month.

Don't worry Pod, btw. You'll still be my No. 1 multi-play-Bezzie! TF2 ftw! :luv:

s'different now. Now you get 4 roundy rectangles of the Gold options with underneath a text line of "I don't want Gold" which when clicked on immediately says "aw, have a month for free". I know this due to setting up 5 new accounts in the last two days.

Make sure you download the free DLC for Halo 3, or we'll be playing the same five maps we've been playing for two years. It's still fun, but considerably less so.

Dimmers: sometimes just forwarding the ports isn't enough. I still had problems with moderate NAT every now and again even when doing that.

You've probably set things up for DHCP and your Xbox is on a different ip address - either manually set it or double check to see that your forwarding the ports to the correct machine.

:this:

There is no technical difference between putting it in the DMZ and port forwarding, as long as you do the port forwarding correctly and wang your 360 on a static address.

Intriguing recommend. Not too sure if I'm happy buying games for a console I don't actually own though, outside of Kieron's Birthday that is.

And I've just bought him his prezzie.

I've got the 360 wireless connector and never had issues with it. I always did the port forwarding thingy as guided on the net and have open NAT. When I switched to o2 the router came with an 360 option which did it all for me. Wireless is much more convenient for me and works 100% bonus I only paid 20 for the adaptor :)

I haven't had any issues with the wireless adapter, either, except for that one time when I disabled uPnP.

I got mine in a deal on Amazon when I bought my Xbox, so I think it was only about £20 for me, too. I can't be doing with wires being trailed about the house.

It can be handy getting the free month of gold via lots of extra if you want to take advantage of current marketplace deals. Oh and getting the latest demos etc. I did that to get Arkham Asylum Demo.
