Believe it or not, but I've only just started watching the West Wing. Never seen an episode before. Have just finished the first three in one sitting.

Fuck me, it's awesome. I'm such a belm for not watching it before. Why didn't I watch it before? I didn't even have anything against it. What's wrong with me?

Ah well, at least I've got the giddy knowledge that I've got lots of cromulent goodness ahead of me. Unless it goes shit all of a sudden.

It doesn't does it? 'cos I really want it to retain this level of awesome. ?:|

It weakens ever so slightly around S5/6, but I stand by my assertion that it's the best thing that's ever been on TV.

I still haven't watched a single episode. I've owned the complete box set for longer than I've had an iPhone 4.

Also, once you've finished The West Wing, you must immediately then watch The Good Guys for unexpected hilarity.

Yep. A definite lull around that point, but I persevered and was thoroughly glad. Great TV.

I began to despise Leo by the end. Was that just me?

He was wrong, and putting the value of his own opinions over everyone else's and Bartlett's. But I think that was deliberate. Leo and the president had to fight at that point.

I'm assuming you mean while he was still in the White House rather than when he was the VP nominee, here.

Places like HMV do in-store deals on the boxed set all the time, think I got mine for £25 iirc Amazon do them for £35. I don't even bother trying to torrent TV series because the sheer number of episodes forces the uploadeder to compress down to eye-strain -o-vision quality and tbh 7 seasons for £35 is actually a really fair deal. Brings the shocking price of CDs and the apple store into perspective as when you work it out that's under 23p an episode.

My dvd rip downloads disagree.

Re: Leo -

HE became an absolute cunt, basically. He did, as Cras said, put his opinion above the president - he succumbed to the "I PUT YOU THERE!!!!!!elventyONE!!1!!!" syndrome. Also, he was unforgiveably mean to Josh. As was the president, come to think of it.

Hilariously, originally the series was supposed to be all about Sam Seabourne, and that was the basis Rob Lowe signed up to it. It evolved, and became much more balanced in its focus, and all of the actors had big huffy fits about salary, which were ongoing huffy fits, and eventually Rob Lowe fecked off for a while as a consequence because he wasn't the man.

EDIT - also, agreed that it's the best thing to have been on telly ever. If a little too much of a liberal Democrat's wet dream.

"Noel", "Posse Comitatus" and that bit of the end in Babe where Farmer Hoggett is stood there all alone at the sheep dog trial are three things always guaranteed to get me to cry.

Are there any R2 DVDs that aren't shit for the first two seasons? The ones we have don't work properly on our TV, only playing in 'stupid small box in the centre of the screen'-o-vision.

I have S1 on DVD but have never watched it. I did like the episodes I saw on TV, though.

A fantastic series throughout. Once you've got through that, have a watch of Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip, not up to Sorkin's cocaine-binge-writing of West Wing highs but it was cruelly cut short

Assuming that early starters have seen episode 18 of S1 (Six Meetings Before Lunch), I was amused by this bit of trivia:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Allison Janney (CJ) apparently did 'The Jackal' behind the scenes for the cast and crew at a random point. Sorkin said "Right - we're doing that", and wrote it in.

Hahahah! Excellent. I was hoping it had something like that behind it.

I still stand by my overriding assessment that Leo is a cuntweasel of the first water. The one thing I really don't get is
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
why Josh, after Leo helped fuck him over repeatedly, asked him to be VP.
There was something of a "let's ignore history" element to the way that relationship was scripted.
