Can anybody give my memory a jog - a few years ago (the 70's/80's/90's?) a number of scientists/researchers died in suspicious circumstances (one guy, if memory serves, tied one end of a rope to a tree, the other around his neck, got in his car and drove off). The thing they all had in common was that they all worked for the same institute (weapons/biological research?)

I want to find out a few more details, but google is producing thousands of results - scientists dying in suspicious/mysterious circumstances seems to be a common occurrence - can anybody suggest any information that will narrow this result set down?

Yes, that's them!

My google-fu must be out-of-order, I didn't even think of googling for the method of death.

On a Google/Wiki side quest I was trying to find the Mysterious deaths in Siberia(?) when a load of students on an Expedition went missing up some mountain side and the search party went out and found some of their bodies in a situation where they were defending them selves from something freaky.

Ring any bells.

Yeah, I remember that. I'll see what I can find.

Creepy. It reads like a cross between Tony Blair Witch and The Thing, except for real. Orange skins and white hair? High doses of radiation? Tents ripped open from the inside? People, terrified, running out into the extreme cold barely dressed? Injuries that can't be explained? It's enough to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

I read a big article on that that gave a perfectly reasonable and fairly convincing explanation for it all. But, er, I can't remember what it was.

Apparently some female befriends them. First of all she persuades them not to mix with their "friends" on the internet any more, then she slowly drives you mad. Finally, to escape from it all, you kill yourself.

Still, not as if any of us have to worry about that kind of thing.
