Out now, all of a sudden. It was £15 in Sainsbury's today, but I didn't buy it because checking sites on my phone, I found no reviews.

Apparently it has the graphical quality of N64 F Zero, a totally unplaytested feel to the levels and controls like shit using motion and like slightly less stinky shit using a thumbstick. There's about four reviews on the whole not. I think they called it Speedtard in the Unite States instead.

Not like Archer is it? His game are usually some level of quite good. Problem being, my decision six months ago was sell the Wii and games, or get a balance board and wait for Archer's new racer, which was bound to be good. I wish I at least used my balance board occasionally.

I always thought Archer was a pool player.

For serious.

Not a good sign that it was sneaked out at budget price without review copies in circulation...

I've just remembered that in a recent Retro Gamer interview, A. McLean claimed his upcoming Wii racing game would have graphics indistinguishable fro, an Xbox 360 game.

God knows that he was on when he claimed that in the interview, but then he comes across as a loon, sorry "eccentric", in the rest of that interview, it's cringe-worthy.

The game reminds me a bit of Extreme-G on the Nintendo 64, but a non-bikey variant of, and de-fogged.

:-(

Vote for Chinny and at least people will get an idea of the history of video games and video game creators in the UK.

For pre Jimmy Whites stuff go and look at "Dropzone" (a defender clone with a number of nice additions which was one of the top 8-bit Atari games ever and had a port to the C64)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dropzone

and of course IK+

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IKplus

Or read any of the early RetroGamers where Archer had a column (some of which were about his hobby of rebuilding original arcade cabinets)

I think he must have got the Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS mixed up.

Seems that's the second minger released via Bethesda in recent days. Rogue Warrior scored a whopping 2 out of 10 in it's review.

I played this at the Eurogamer Expo with the missus. She loved it... but then it's probably the only 3D racer she's ever played, bless her. I thought it was utter dogshit and really did look like an N64 game - and at least N64 F-Zero had some decent art direction about it.

F-Zero GX is one of my favourite games ever, and I would love a good sequel.

I hope everyone has played Excite Truck.

Excite Truck is probably my favorite non-overhead racing game ever. Seriously.

It continually blows my mind that there still isn't a DS F-Zero, complete with online play and touch-screen track designer.

Yes, it's worrying when even in the 'In Stores Now' video on Xbox Live (which is one of the few places you can see unadulterated in-game footage) it just showed an admittedly very cool cutscene.

The GBA ones all sold like shit, so that probably solves that one.

Yeah, F-Zero DX was my GBA launch title. I love the SNES verison, I love the N64 verison, but the GBA version was baaaad. The cars were weird, the tapping-throttle-or-you-corner-like-shit thing was worse. The presentation couldn't be faulted but it just didn't feel right.

I just played my copy of the first GBA F-Zero ('F-Zero for Game Boy Advance', as it's called, being the Japanese release), and unfortunately you're right. Hadn't played it since 2002/2003 and my memories were rather positive of it, but it's no good. Most of the vehicles control oddly in some way, and the track designs aren't all that either. The presentation itself seems dated as well, the 'pre-rendered' graphical style seems more passé than the more timeless hand-drawn sprites of Super NES F-Zero.

F-Zero X and GX were top games last time I played them, incidentally. If massively difficult. I dare not play the original, as that will doubtless spoil my opinion on a classic. (Man, F-Zero was jaw-dropping when it was new. Bewildering.)

It's actually 'F-Zero: Maximum Velocity', I don't know where I got 'DX' from.

Well i've given it a go , and the answer is 'no'

Start the game and you get shown 3 different control methods but you cant change between them (it showed me using a wheel , using the wiimote sideways and using a nunchuck , but since i had the nunchuck plugged in that was the only control method open to me) and things started to go downhill from there

I think part of the problem is that it doesnt know what it wants to be , it has the fast feeling of an F-Zero at times , but at other points its trying to rip off wipeout with the trancey music and no edges to the track so you fall off the sides.

I did the first track which has 2 'features' to it , a loop the loop (with a weird bit of uneven ground beforehand so you wobble on approach and dont get the right line so your falling off the side) and a large C type turn thing but if you go for the boosts then you cant make it round the top and fall off so you need to avoid them and stop at the top of the bend to turn back round (why stop the slight exhilaration you get by going at speed to go around a really tight bend on the very first bloody course)

The 2nd track then has a 'jump' and probably other features but i turned it off at that point.

Graphics are actually quite nice there are some caverns , waterfall things , see through hatched sections and it does really keep the frame rate up , the problem is the rest of the game isnt worth it.

I dont know if they were pushed to get it out by a specific date but i cant really recommend this at all even at £15

Sorry for the further F-Zero Maximum Velocity diversion, but:

http://www.mrfixitonline.com/viewtopic.php?t=176

I read up on the game before posting, and found there were still several cars I hadn't unlocked, including the ludicrously fast Jet Vermillion. Thing is, the ways to get it are: Finish the Championship 255 times (fuck off), win every series on Master difficulty with every ship (fuck off) or enter your name at Nintendo's Japanese site to get a code (doesn't work any more).

Except, that site has a code generator too. So now my copy of F-Zero MV, which I've had since the North American launch of the GBA, which I finally beat the championship in a few months ago when I found the cart lying in a box, has the best ship unlocked.
