It never occurred to me before, but you're right. When I was 11 or 12, if we were curious about sex, we'd have to *ask* someone about it. I distinctly remember a girl being roundly mocked for not knowing what a blow job was and staying very quiet because I personally had no idea. I've said it here before, but I have (had) brothers that are a lot younger than me, and basically everyone their age learns about sex from the Internet. And, apparently, sex between "young" people (ie. people less than 20) is a lot like porn sex now.

Education and youth are pretty much my leading "thing", and sex is an influential part of that. It's also probably because people my age are pretty much on the cusp of it - byt the time I was about 14-17, the internet was neither a barely heard of nerd thing nor the norm.

I learned loads of stuff about sex and so on by simply reading about it in primary school, at libraries and such (having a parent who taught in a bunch of places helped - the library at work was an obvious place to stash me for an afternoon on most days when I was off but she wasn't), and reading magazines my family bought (though I wouldn't recommend this now, the misogynist shits who write most magazines are even worse than they were). But I got the benefits of the internet in my teens, too. Even then you had to apply some reason and that to know that porn isn't sex, but I might have been lucky to just have a relatively balanced perspective on it anyway from reading loads, and having non-twatto friends.

Having said that, even when I was about 15 I remember seeing a light-hearted thing about sex on telly where some woman asked random men around town where the clitoris is, and almost none of them knew the answer (with the internet everywhere now they probably could, of course, but ask them what 'foreplay' is and they'd probably point to a camera). Even though I bloody knew, and the stuff I'd read was a fraction of what they'd have had access to. So, take that kind of lack of bother and apply it to a generation who can type "sex" into a search engine and find that 99% of results are guffawing retards wanking over a barbie doll's bored face, and you get a lot of pity for young women and the minority of young men who have the sense to think beyond that.

If the last few decades made relationships and sexuality complicated, the next few are going to be a nightmare. Sexual liberation hasn't even started yet.

I do think right now we're in one of those inbetween times where things are changing that fast that its not easy to keep on top of what actually happens - i think last year or the year before there was a 'sex education' show on Ch4 which i caught some of (purely by accident of course ) which showed some of the strange (to me) attitudes to sex around younger adults.

In a porn movie however they are real, are real people and if your parents did a shitty job of teaching you about the birds and the bees then porn could become your means of learning.

I always find stupid when people complain that porn is irrealistic because it centers on men pleasure and it's degrading to women bla bla bla.
