I'm actually counting you lot this time as this is a subject I ignorantly and deliberately know absolutely nothing about.

When I got home my Mum (who I live with sometimes, uncle and aunt the others) had a mobile. It's an old Nokia thing, greenscreen, pap. It had a Virgin card in it and after doing some limited research (because the credit was chomped so ruddy quickly) it turned out to be very expensive. It's not her fault, it was me sending 15p a go text messages without realising.

We credited it a couple of times but for about 8 months it's sat doing nothing.I tried to unlock it to use one of the o2 PAYG or orange PAYG sims I got free ages ago and it seems I fucked it right up and now it refuses to work on any tariff. Great.

So, mummy now needs a new PAYG phone for about £30 with the best cheapest service. Also it needs to be Mum friendly and mine is totally technically impaired. I built her a lovely PC last year and after six months she could not even use the mouse and keyboard to put an address in the www bar so we got rid of it.

As I say, I am relying on you lot because when it comes to phones I am as thick as her. I never got into them and being a bit "If I don't answer the house phone it's because I want you to fuck off" I never really felt the need to have one.

:hat: What the fuck happened to cups and string?

Well, you can get a Nokia blubdeblahblah for 4.99 + 10.00 talktime prepay virgin card here:
http://www.bestcontractmobilephone.co.u ... okia--1208

but as for cheapest calls/texts, it really will depoend on whether it is more for calls or texts, I think virgin are cheap for txts, but more expensivce for calls (may be wrong). Also, signal is quite important.

Right. It was hard choosing in the end due to all the wonderful suggestions but I decided to order mum the Nokia Bobby pointed out.

It was a hard decision, but I got there in the end.

Mum is getting a red one, and because it's £9.99 del with £5 credit thrown in I got a black one for myself.

So I am about to join the mobile sensation for the first time since about 2005.

Hurrah.

Oh, I got them on Tmobile as I don't like Virgin very much. I had their PAYG in the states and it put me off for life.

I think T-Mobile and Virgin use the same cell network anyway so the signal should be the same. I fully expect to be science pwned momentarily, not that anyone on this forum is an expert on mobile signals or anything.

Aye, Virgin were set up to piggy back onto One2One's network, who then subsequently changed their name to T-Mobile.

Hah, yes!

I got a Virgin phone to get away from One2One's shit coverage only to find the coverage was exactly the same. Took the mobile straight back to Our Price for a refund. They didn't refund the phone credit though.

I then moved to BT Cellnet where I have remained since then.
