I need a dect phone which is

a) compatible with repeaters (I think it's called GAP mode) and

b) has speed dial, where you can program a number into each number key and then just hold it down to dial.

And preferably has large-ish keys rather than tiny fiddly ones.

I was looking at the Panasonic KX-TG phones but I can't find a user manual anywhere to figure out if it has speed dial.

So, can anyone suggest one, based on what you have?

edit: look, I used the 'advice' icon and everything!

Nice big buttons... speed dial... no idea about gap mode though, sorry.

Cheers!
According to Amazon, it does GAP. Don't need the answerphone but it's cheap enough anyway.

So, the speed dial - you just hold a number down and it'll dial it, right?

Aye, I never use it, but I believe you can. There's a single one as well, sans answerphone.

I have the Panasonic KX-TG phone, I don't think it has one touch speed dialling.

One thing I will add is reliability. I've had DECT phones in the house for ten years now and they were all pretty flakey until we started using Panasonic ones, which have lasted at least 4-5 years now with no issues.

Yeah, the ones I've got are absolutely excellent! I've had various types in the past, but these are by the far the best.

Ta for the suggestions. I had a look in Tesco and they had those Philips ones (although it's not possible to get one without an answering machine), and plenty of Panasonics.
However, I also spotted a Tesco own-brand one which has speed dial (only on keys 1 and 2 but good enough), AND supports GAP (so it works on repeater). It seems not bad, especially for £14.

I tried the repeater last night and walked half a mile before I got bored - it was still in range. Might go out on the bike later and really see how far it goes.

That is the most 80's thing ever. When you got your first analogue cordless phone in 1987 and you walked up the street to find how far it would go.

Also. I had the non DECT version of those Phillips phones. They lasted a grand total of 7 months before letting out a loud fart and never working again. I suspect it was the base station or PSU but I couldn't be arsed to fuck around with it, so I returned them and got some cheapys.

I used to have a digital Panasonic in the USA and it and it's battery fought on for about 6 years before the battery needed replacing. Very good phone and incredibly sturdy and comfy to use. The Phillips one the same size and style of the DECT one linked to was like trying to hold a slippery mars bar between your ear and shoulder. Awful.

I had two Philips models as warranty replacements, both lasted about a year before going tits up. That's when I switched to Panasonic.

Yeah we have Panasonics too, they've been fine for a few years now, much better than the crappy Binatone things we had before.
