The London Evening Standard has announced it is to become a free newspaper in a matter of days and increase its circulation to 600,000 copies.

Does that mean no more people at little boots shouting incomprehensible syllables at us?

Err. Wow.

That doesn't make a lot of sense, for [NDA] reasons.

Oh OK then - A certain software company has been working flat-out for the last 6 months to provide them with a contactless card based payment system (Oyster card or a specific card for the paper), with portable terminals for the vendors.

It was delivered last month and is up and running, you may have noticed, so it just seems a bit mental to waste all that money developing a system and then make the paper free. They must be *desperately* down on circulation.

Note to self: If kalmar is captured, he will compromise the operation with minimal torture.

Quick! Get the non-energy efficient lightbulb!

Noo! I will give you the plans to the 100% efficient electric car! Anything but the harsh light of a 100 watt bayonet! JUST THINK OF THE WASTED ELECTRICITY!!!

The London Lite is going, leaving the Standard the only free evening paper in London (The London Paper closed a month ago).

The Metro's still covering every flat surface of the Underground system in the evenings, though, so is in effect a second evening newspaper.
