Anyone use this for any sort of serious project? I've played with it once or twice and I must say it's easy to chuck 3d shapes together, but not convinced about making accurate real world models or plans using it.

Also sketchup pro is $500 and I'd be concerned about suddenly running into a limitation that forces buying the pro version :S

Are there any other low-learning-curve packages to consider? I have used 3d modelling and cad in the past but don't want to spend weeks trying to learn how to work it.

There's the Maya learning edition, but it fried my brain sack.

Bizarrely, I found Sketchup to be hideously crippling. I know some people swear by it, but having used 3DS Max for years, I couldn't wrap my head around it.

I was just thinking I kept seeing 'Google's Ketchup' there as well.

My girlfriend uses this occasionally. she says that it is good as long as the thing you are modelling is flat. Curves or slopes not so good. also rendering isn't possible. She did use it to model our new kitchen quite nicely, though.
