Sometimes when you set out to do something as a writer, it turns out a bit... weird. What was originally supposed to be a rant piece about geeky behaviour in the games industry descended into a gallery of nerd porn; almost organically.

So tell me, do you think I lost the story angle amidst the smut? Brutal honesty appreciated.

Who came up with the idea of article as picture and commentary, click next? I hate it with a passion.

Actually, that looks pretty reminiscent of the Way of the Rodent "Why I Love" format. But it was probably the BBC.

Edit: Dear Their Web Programmer: If you're going to generate the text from the image title, scrub the title attribute after generating the text, because a popup* containing raw HTML looks shoddy. At least in Google Chrome Dev channel 4.0.232.something. LOLHAXOMG.

* Why can't I remember what those are called. Oh yes, tooltip.

You fail. The character in Tekken is Nina Williams. (Nina Gordon was in Veruca Salt) And that thing that holds amunition on a rifle? That's a magazine.

The whole site is fail. I just love the 'slideshow' function and the way that I click the link and fuck all happens for 30 seconds. Makes reading the article so much better.

Sorry bro, but you need more depth and explanation for your choices (like I said with the 'worst game bosses in history' article) as well as to get your facts straight. There is a Nude Raider patch for the ORIGINAL game, and it was released many years before the Anniversary re-engining.

Christ. That Veruca Salt stuff-up is epic. I'll fix forthwith.

In both cases, the subject is pretty light and frothy. It's supposed to be a five minute time-waster (or a thirty minute time-waster, courtesy of the crappy web layout). If it had more than a few paragraphs per slideshow, I'd be getting hit with TBDR comments.

I was referring to the PS1 game, not the PC version.

Edit: Incidentally, would people prefer it if I stopped linking to articles I write? I'm certainly not doing it for traffic - there are obviously much bigger gaming sites and forums that could serve that purpose. I'm only doing it to get your opinions, really.

Not in the least, as long as - in this case, certainly - you don't mind getting those opinions :p

To my mind, it reads as a piece berating the gaming nerds' obsession with girly bits, whilst simultaneously glorifying in the excuse to show lots of girly bits.

In my continued tidy-up of my collection of crap, I saw this and it reminded me of this thread and MetalAngel too...
(comes with a tutorial on audio cassette too)

See, that's a shame, if you ask me. The ideas behind the articles certainly are good, and the individual subjects you examine within are too, and they deserve more examination than you're willing/able to provide, due to either your time constraints/those imposed on you.

I come away disappointed that I'm not going to get some new insight or indeed the proper truth behind some of the stuff. (for example, I've never seen the Jade Raymond thing where she's not wearing her undergarments)

Really? You didn't specify. Is there a nudey mode for a non-PC version of Anniversary?

No, carry on, like I say, I enjoy the ideas you raise and just wish they had an article to do them justice.

What do you mean 'proper truth'? In all the versions I've seen of the Raymond strip, she's in the buff.

The Nina pic was nice.

Well, for 'proper truth' I mean the actual origins behind a piece of gaming lore... it's one thing to pass on a rumour or remind us of some quirk from history, it's another to tell us the interesting facts behind it. Things like how the Playstation was originally the SNES CD-ROM addon that Sony continued to develop after Nintendo dropped out.

And every version of the Jade comic that comes up on Google she's wearing a striped bikini.

I Googled "Jade Raymond comic" and got the nude version on the first page.

And how is the Sony/Nintendo thing an interesting fact? If you don't know that. you're not a gamer.

Edit: Okay, that's weird. I just tried googling and the image is no longer appearing. But look at the image on the website - she is clearly not wearing a bikini beneath the censor bars.

It was just an example - and everyone had it hear it first somewhere, right? All I'm saying is it's one thing to know a quirk fact, and it's another thing to know the (often amusing) story behind it.

Oh, I don't doubt that. But I'm (pun intentional) blowed if I can find it anywhere. So there you go - you DID tell me something I hadn't known before.

The artist is the guy who does Chugworth Academy, if you're wondering.

Why don't you write something for "the site".. You won't get paid for it but you'll have all the space you need to expand on stuff!
