Quote:
Retailers have told Eurogamer that Microsoft will increase the price of the Arcade Xbox 360 bundle to GBP 159.99 (from GBP 129.99) starting September 1. The five XBLA games will no longer be included in the bundle, either.

ShopTo boss Igor Cipolletta received confirmation from Microsoft this morning, as did a corroborating independent retail chain source.

Eurogamer was also told that Microsoft will increase the price of individual Xbox 360 accessories by one or two pounds. An independent retail source said this was being done to counteract the poor pound-to-Euro currency exchange rate.

Furthermore, the email from Microsoft to retailers mentioned only Arcade and Elite bundles, which also strengthens recent rumours the Premium Xbox 360 bundle is to be discontinued.

Microsoft has been contacted and GamesIndustry.biz is awaiting comment on the price increase.

As I've said before, I've seen this in other sectors. Apple laptops went up in price during the last refresh when they went down in the US. When I bought my TV a few months after Toby bought his, his model had gone up in price by £50-100.

A late reaction to the exchange rate rebalancing?

The pound is fucking shit against the Euro now, though. Someone who isn't busy can feel free to do the maths :)

Anyway, I'm not paying £160 for a 360 arcade.

Also, we are slow today, aren't we?

I'm not paying £159.99 for an Xbox Arcade.

When does the warranty extension end for the earliest manufatured 360s? Maybe they have half an eye on this market.

Incidentally, I RRoded yesterday but it came back straight away. I hope it stays that way. 8 fucking months.

Does this now make it economical to buy an old RROD xbox of ebay and repair-it-up?

I've casually looked in to it before. 30-40ish for the xbox, £5-£15ish for a kit (although I don't know how long said kits would last). But adding on the price for a controller and maybe a hard drive ended up pushing the price close to an arcade with HDMI and no future problems so it didn't make much sense.

But if this extra £30 is passed to the consumer it might start making sense for those not scared off opening the xbox and poking it with a stick.
