I had a rather large argument with my girlfriend last night about her getting a new tattoo. She already has a couple that are, I suppose, quite nice. Plus, she had them before I met her. Now she wants another one and I'm "not really into it".

What do you guys think about tattoos on ladies?

Where's the "depends wildly on subject, size, and location" option?

I think that's a bit of a generalisation there, mate. But I do see your point.

Lovely. The missus has a lovely ivy pattern covering her upper arm, plus butterflies on her back and a backpiece. I loves em.

I'm not a big fan of them. Ange got one done when she was 18 and I don't mind it, but I wouldn't be particularly thrilled if she wanted another one now.

Funnily enough, we were talking about this the other day. Where's itsallwater?

Saw a woman in town the other day with a strappy top on which revealed the tattoo at the back of her neck - 'Spadge' is a large, curly font.

Dude, that's a slightly offensive inference to make about Mali.

Rich chavs. He lives in Oxfordshire, don't you know.

I'm not sure where I was going with that.

Tattoos can look great on people, but I can't generalise. It depends on size, colours, skin tones, body size, location, subject etc.

However, that said, tattoos on (lower) legs and feet usually put me off women instantly. Tattoos on men's legs are just daft, as are any tattoos covered in hair.

Thing is, and perhaps I should've explained, I really don't mind the ones she already has. It's just this one is pretty big and on her rib cage. I, just, I dunno. I don't like it. Plus, she sprung it on me three days ago. She was umming and ahhing about one on her foot or something, which I wouldn't have minded, but this one is pretty big. It's sort of like she's taking a step from "a couple of nice tattoos" to "covered in tattoos". Kinda thing.

I wasn't being serious, myp, I was running with the subject/size/location answer in an attempt at humour. No offence was intended towards anyone. If ahve offended you, then I apologise unreservedly.

Tattoos I don't like: english/arabic/FUCKING KANJI script of any description. "tribal" sweeping geometric patterns.

Tattoos on women (and men) can be striking and flattering, or they can be silly, unsightly, and regrettable.

I always like to think the foreign language ones say something like "This man is a complete tit, and pees sitting down", especially with the Chinese characters.

As a general rule, I prefer those to pictures of things.

Agreed, Jem has one on the very top of her back/bottom of her neck which i adore but a not so good one on her wrist. I don't have any myself and wouldn't be over enthused if she wanted more. Wouldn't try to stop her unless it involved a tear drop or spiderweb.

Oh come on. You know when the missus gets back from having her hair done, and she looks slightly different, but it's enough to give you the raging horn because of that reason? GRAGH! MAN MUST CLAIM WOMAN! GRAGH! It's like that with new tatts.

Even if she comes back with Homer Simpson on her cheek?

I think this thread needs a Google search.

Well Hell's has only ever had tasteful and incredibly well done tatts. As I said, there's no accounting for taste. If you're seeing someone who'd be prepared to have Homer Simpson tattooed on her face, you'd probably start asking questions on the validity of the relationship. Or at least, I would.

Peaches Geldof would be (kinda) cute if it weren't for her stupid leg tattoo. Feet are the worst.

Why specify tattoos on women? I have a friend who has got a tattoo of every single running joke we've had in the past 3 years. Although saying that, having 'I'm not getting 55 tattoos' running up my leg would be kinda funny. For 3 minutes.

I don't hate that one too much. It's mainly on the lower legs and feet I find distasteful, especially when the girl wears tights/stockings.
