So, is it easy? I've heard I'd need to get a network adaptor or something. Is it possible to FTP stuff over to this once it's in place? Ta.

Yes.
Yes, you do: it plugs into the PS2 and it has the IDE connectors on it.
Yes it is, but you need A) some way of booting into an FTP server program, and B) some way of booting into a menu that will allow you to execute programs from the HD. Stock PS2s have neither of these. Plus it's damned slow. It's better to plug the HD into a USB thingy and then into your PC whenever you want to transfer stuff.
You're welcome.

Search my previous posts for 'PS2'.

Aha! Awesomes. Off the top of your head, what software would I need to boot ISOs off the HD? DOes that go on a memory card or something?

Has anyone tried Free McBoot?

I've already set it up so my PS2 can boot from a trigger disc, but this seems to do away with that (as long as you've got a method of installing it).
I've had the tab open in Firefox for ages, but I'm just waiting for a rainy day to bother to do it.

Sounds interesting, but as per anything I've read about this subject my eyes sort of defocus after the first line or two of the text. Then I start lolling sideways in apathy and indecision. Then my mouth starts huffing as I lash my head from side to side. The overall impression is of a baby in a high chair refusing a spoonfull of food.

Basically I want someone to do it for me so I can just load up my PS2 to play a game off the HD. Rarely.

If ever, if I'm honest.

I've tried FreeMcBoot. It worked. Though I wasn't sure how to do the thing to allow it to play 'backups'.

You can't FTP games over, well you can in theory but the FTP server for the PS2 was so shit the last time I tried it would crawl through about 40mb and then die.

Games I put on either by ripping the disk on the PS2 itself or by plugging the HDD into a PC.

Though with the new FMB you can use a USB HDD and that makes things easier to connect to PC. I used to just connect the PS2 HDD to the PC with an IDE cable.
