Asura’s Wrath gets 360 demo: 10 batshit minutes at 720p

Microsoft put out the Asura’s Wrath demo this afternoon, revealing an insane game based on rockets, gods and quicktime events. Genius cannot be described with words. Watch ten minutes of it below, sans voiceover. It releases in Japan today, in the US on February 21 and in the EU on February 24.

Looks good but I'd rather be in control of the character than rely on QTE.

I'll check out the demo though.

Ack. That voice acting makes even Power Rangers look well done.

That was the worst shit I've ever played. Looked like Manga, sounds like Manga, bonkers Manga story, plays like Dragon's Lair. Terrible.

From the little I watched it looks amusingly bonkers but I didn't watch all of it so I can see if first hand whenever I get the demo. Which will be a while yet as I'm a dirty silver scummer; stupid fucking MS policy. It's not like I'm going to but a gold membership just to play demos earlier you fucking pricks so what's the point?

So, that was...weird. It's more like an interactive manga film than an actual game; the combat is bizarre the way it mixes hand-to-hand and pew-pew (with some quicktime thrown in for good measure) and it doesn't actually seem to be possible to die. It amused me for ten minutes just because of how insanse the battle scenes were* but as an actual game? Yeah, not much going on there. Either it's another example of a developer choosing the worst possible levels for a demo that aren't even slightly representative of the actual game, or Capcom have dropped a serious bollock with this one.

*In the first demo level you fight a massive guy then blow up a spaceship then fight the massive guy again but now he's as big as a planet and using a single finger to crush you from space. You get riled up and beat his fingertip until five of your six arms explode and then he dies. The second battle ends culminates in some guy using an insanely long sword to first push you from the moon to the surface of the earth at which point he pins you to the ground by stabbing his sword all the way through the planet and out the other side again. Throughout all this you he carries on a gruff monologue about how excellent fighting is.
