Am having an argument with someone I was hoping you guys could settle... firstly, how many bits are there in a byte? And secondly, which Bob is funnier Bob Hope or Bob Hoskins? He is saying 48 and Hope, is he right?

Both very valid points, I can see there is much discussion to be had!

Bob Monkhouse had about 10 jokes that lasted his whole career.

Until his joke book famously got stolen and he had to come up with some new ones.

Why would you need to steal his joke book to use his jokes? Surely you could just listen to him and, like, remember them?

Kudos to him for managing to film an ad campaign after he was dead though :metul:

Bob Monkhouse's awesomeness was in how smooth and unflappable he was. I'd watch him and, while his jokes were old, I'd think 'now there is a professional'.

Yeah, I have a lot more time for him than most of his comic generation/contemporaries.

Bob Monkhouse actually used to live in the house directly opposite my grandparents at some point, so they knew each other in a neighbourly way. I don't know if this is when my grandparents were still living in Kent or when they moved to London, but I believe he was well known at the time. I think my grandfather mentioned that he (Monkehyhouse) had a disabled son and that they used to have an immaculate lawn.

To be honest I never really liked Bob Monkhouse, but mostly because when mentioned I never had a very nice impression of him, and coupled with the tired jokes he seemed uninteresting. Maybe it is a generation thing.

I'd like to point out, with much respect, that you are older than me. ;)

But you clearly have the comedy sense of an 80 year old.

No, I didn't mean between the people here, but I think, in general, that Monkhouse appealed, and was styled to appeal, to an older crowd. I don't think that people 'our' age (and I am going to clump us all in to the same generation here, not actually knowing how old you are... how old are you?) were his target audience. Maybe I'm wrong, but I found him very old fashioned. Perhaps because I didn't find him funny or I had heard his jokes too many times.
