My Xbox headset is on its way out. Any recommendations? Cheaper would be better. Baby on the way and all that.

Try calling Microsoft support, I reckon they'll probably just send you a new one.

If your eggbox is still under warranty, phone up support and tell them the headband bit snapped. Free replacement. An ex-colleagueyue of mine got 5 out of them this way.

On a related note, if anyone wants my old headset for spare bits (I snapped the actual metal headphone jack off inside the controller, thank fuck it was a wireless controller as you can poke it back out from the other side through the battery compartment) PM me.

Does anyone know of any Xbox headsets out there that give full sound through as well as speech?
The missus watches loads of 4OD while i'm on the Xbox and have to have the sound right down.

Could you not have a pair of normal headphones attached to your tv/stereo and output speech through them?

If you output everything from the TV, Live chat included, it would all come over one set of headphones. You wouldn't have a mic though.

I've already suggested that he moves the PC to the spare room upstairs so he can be left in peace. :P

True. I wonder if you could hack up a set of wireless earphones to the 360 mic?

Yeah, that's what I have to do at night so I don't wake everyone. Problem is getting the microphone in the right place, round the neck & slouching a bit works best but it isn't that comfy.

I've asked Myp already but would something like this not output sound as well as chat?

I don't think there's any way to tell the 360 to direct its sound output over the wireless to the headset, is there?

The easy, if inelegant solution is to plug a pair of ipod headphones into the TV, put those in your ears, then put the headset on top.

I said it was inelegant.

Your only choice for 360 headphones + headset (apart from wearing two sets) is a gaming headphone thing. Expect to pay £50+. They usually have a small box that plugs into the 360's optical output, does some surround sounds stereo encoding, and feeds that to the headphones. Then the headphones also plug into the pad and mux the voice chat into the rest of the sound, and offer a microphone too.

Examples: one, two.

Did you just say "iPod headphones" instead of "in-ear headphones"?

I was meaning "not in ear earphones" - you know the kind which just rest in your ear, but don't go right in and seal to block out sound. Like the standard ones you get with iPodsWalkmans.

So yeah, whatever those are called.

"Earbuds", as opposed to "canalphones", are the terms I use.

Canalphones are the ones that lock in place, right?

Yes. Any design that projects down into the ear canal itself, and which rely in friction between the body of the phone (which has to be something squishy) and the ear canal to stay in place.

I nearly pasted Gaywood's post to me verbatim, but I'm above those kinds of things.

you could take the sound output from the xbox and merge it with the controller output. yes, that would be a grand union of sounds.

(I am so so sorry)
