Planning on seeing this soon.

I'd rather be punched in the face than watch Transformers 2 again.

No film has terrified me quite as much as DMTH but at the same time I feel the mix of comedy and horror was a little too uneven. Thing is though the comedy was really good, it's just it felt a little confusing to be mixed with proper serious horror. I think it would have been a little bit better as just a straight horror story.

I dunno man I felt it needed that bit of comedy or kinda "gross out" stuff to give a tad of releif to the otherwise none stop terror :). Plus the story was just great.

Most people are of the opinion that it needed the comedy. I still remain unconvinced but I do agree it's a great film. It's no Evil Dead 2 though.

yeah I can see that argument too
I just think because it was fairly unoriginal, adding the comedy helped.

If he could make more an original concept with the same kinda frights etc id be interested

;)

I meant because Evil Dead 2 isn't a scary film at all, it's just a comedy. This DMTH thing sounds like it's supposed to be scary. So being like ED2 would be a bad thing in this case.

Horror doesn't have to be scarey. Horrific, yes.

Well, yes, but LS was on about how scary DMTH was. I haven't seen a film that's scared me in ... ooh, a fucking long time indeed, so I'm quite pleased by its existence, and the fact it isn't the same sort of film as ED2.

EDIT -

Hang on. Yes they do. Otherwise they're just torture porn and gore-fests. That's not "horror" to me.

And films relying on the jump scares aren't horror to me. It's the same as a two year old waiting in the pantry to jump out at Nana.

Gentlemen who like the old physical effects body-horrors would do well to seek out Slither. Great flim.

Absolutely. Although well done jump scares do scare the fuck out of me like nothing else. My nerves got shot in 'nham.*

So - horror should be scary, but those scares shouldn't come from "boo!". I'm not sure we're fundamentally disagreeing with each other, but we can argue some more if you're bored.

I have seen said film. It is not what I'd call a horror film, being, as it is, a comedic, almost parodic, bit of wry entertainment. Fucking brilliant, mind. Currently available for £3 in Tesco.

Actually, I'd stick things like Slither and the ED films (especially 3) in their own category. "Fun horror", perhaps.

Also in the "fun-horror" catagory is "Feast". At the start of the film, it freeze-frames on each character and gives you some "chatting-with-your-buddies" text about them. The character played by Jason Mewes is, excellently, called "Jason Mewes", with the occupation of "actor" and his survival chances are "we're impressed he's not dead already".
Watch it, it's great.

'Teeth' is supposedly surprisingly good. Must make a point of watching it sometime.
