Got a can of compressed air?
No? Blow on it fucking hard, then. Wipe the dust out with the corner of a rag (or some ear things, if you have any), and blow like crazy.

Or a vacuum cleaner. Don't overdo it though.

On my one it definitely needed taking to bits though.

Sorry for the thread hijack, but I'm having problems with my laptop, too. My Toshiba keeps turning itself off after a few hours of being on. Should I take it apart and have a look inside? It's two years old now.

Mine turns itself off due to overheating so it might be the same thing.

I'm going to have to take mine apart now, tried to get the fan moving with a toothpick now half the toothpick is inside.

Where did you see "use a toothpick" in the posts above?

This is like the Simpsons where Homer is trying to put up a deck chair and eventually ends up on fire.

Its the only thing I could get through the ventto reach the fan. The blowing wasnt doing anything.

So I took it apart, and used two toothpicks to get the half toothpick then the toothpicks to get the 3 massive clumps of dust out. In the tiny compartment where the fan was held half of it was concentrated dust.
Underneath the keyboard had turned into somekind of crumb civilisation so I thought I'd clean that aswell, took me 2 hours to get the keys back on. And the spacebar is very iffy now.

hoover the fan? Tried three times, tried using a hair dryer aswell see if that would do anything. The fan wouldn't budge.

I hoovered underneath the keyboard mind.

if you can get to the fan use a semi stiff brush to clean it. It gets right into it.
