I'm not paying BX$5 for an Xbox Live card.

I have a large steak in that venture.

A Bombay Duck is a fish, a lizardfish to be precise.

I'd beef it up with some quantitative easing.

For all that it's made the BBC news, this is actually no different from shopping centres selling gift vouchers that can be used anywhere in that centre, is it?

Typical ignorant stereotyping. The Brixton currency is in fact stabbing.

I'd go for this only if the BX$ has a picture of Craster or similar revered local figure on it.

So that the £20 goes back into the Brixton economy and stays there. If you had £20, it could go anywhere.

Craster: no, no difference at all.

The point is that you can only spend the Brixton pounds in Brixton.
It's a bit like saying "I'll try to shop locally" except with masses of inconvenience, administration costs and potential fraud on top.

Exchange £20 for a bit of paper and then get upset when people go off the idea, and you're left £20 down with a lovely piece of paper.

Or £20 up, and out a small quantity of printer ink.

This newfangled 'dollar' is essentially a form of treason.

Current exchange rate is five blades to a pound.

I read that book 3 days ago.

I've just finished Starship Troopers as well (kindly lent to me by Kern) and it was most awesome. Nothing like the film at all. Better, even.

I was about to say I'd have no problem walking in Brixton at night, and have indeed done so in the past, but Peckham would be another thing altogether!

I do so most days - worst I ever get is the occasional beggar pestering me for money. Last time that seemed to be happening, it turned out to be someone asking for bus-related advice, so I had to quickly adjust my demeanour from "skint" to "helpful".

I've already taken the liberty of getting your coat, hat, scarf and gloves from the cloakroom.

Is this news?

I remember my dad taking me to some part of London where all the shops accepted a local currency - it may have been Brixton, I'm not sure he was from Brixton, so it is relatively likely.

Anyway, they had their own local currency there. There was a shop where you could trade electronic items. You could either accept stirling as payment for the items you bought in, or the local currency. If you accepted the currency, you received more of it, and this currency could be used to buy items in that shop or any of the other local shops.

Oh come on, I bet given 10 minutes I could find 5 posts on this forum by you that are considerably worse than that one (assuming it was Kalmar's "cash cow" pun you were responding to)... I can see one in this thread for a start. If you took a cloakroom every time you deserve one, you'd have sweated to death by now.
