I wish they'd sort stuff like this out for the 360. I never use the iPlayer or any of the other channel's versions of it because I only bother to watch telly on the telly.

360 doesn't have a browser, otherwise they would have.

My Wii is pretty much only used as my iPlayer these days.

Yeah but they could write something for it if they wanted to. It's not like it's incapable of running one.

The BBC don't write stuff from the Wii or PS3, they just make the iPlayer work in the versions of Flash that the browsers on the consoles can manage. No browser, no Flash, no iPlayer.

Well, it works. I don't like any of the console browsers, but they're better than nothing.

I read something somewhere (but can't remember where, could be imagining it, etc) that the BBC did actually get in touch with both Microsoft and Sony about producing versions of iPlayer for thir respective consoles, but both companies made several demands over how it should work with regards interface, etc. The Beeb packed it up then and there as if their going to do something like that for free that would be of benefit to MS and Sony, then the Beeb alone get to decide what it looks like, how it works, etc.

Like the Wii though, they have now tailored a version of iPlayer for the PS3's web browser.

Why don't they just put 720p files up on the torrent trackers? It would be much easier, cheaper, and then you could easily watch them on a PS3, or a wide range of other devices really.

Plus, the BBC can't fart without having to consult with the BBC trust. I can imagine that meeting - "Well, we're going to enable them to be found on a system of websites which is synonymous with piracy and porn, and we'll use the license fee to enact it". Yup.

Plus, of course, iPlayer is only accessable from the UK because it's us wot pays for it, innit?

last week as an iplayer labs tester type I could choose three screen sizes, now only two, one doesn;t stream and the other looks lower res than evar.

That's Flash's (or Window's) fault.

I don't care who fixes it It's far more likely to be Adobe's fault than Windows though, Media player can manage it just fine, see 2nd possible request.

Seriously though, that would be enough to turn the iplayer from essential to unusable for me. I only ever watch iplayered stuff while I'm working on something. (or more likely, on forums)

Yes it can. As can VLC and Media Player Classic, although the latest VLC has a bug where it full screens on the wrong monitor for me.

On both Vista and XP if you fullscreen Media Player and click on the other screen it un-fullscreens Media Player. Same goes for games, Powerpoint, apps - pretty much anything. I'm fairly sure it's a Windows thing.

Your windows is broken. It works with media player on every computer I've ever tried it on, which is a lot.

EDIT : Someone back me up here! Fwiw, It's worked on at least Vista Home Prem x86, Vista Ultimate 32 and 64bit, XP Pro and XP x64 and using a Radeon 9700 Pro and a Geforce 7600GS. It's worked on MPC, Media Player and VLC but not any flash player. It DOES work using iplayer download manager to launch media player to play, which is where this started

edit 2 : Yeah, checked on IRC, everyone's done this. There's something weird about your PC somewhere, presumably graphics drivers that are stupid.

Works fine on Vista 32 bit with WMP.

But (and this was the point) does not work with any flash based player I've found. Thankfully the old iPlayer download manager could play files in WMP. The labs one couldn't last I checked and (while I'm weird) this is entirely why I need the iplayer

Has the machine got media center on it? If so, there's an iPlayer/4OD/etc plugin for that which might work.

Interesting point. Although that's a heavy load just to watch a video. Let's hope the old version keeps working.

It definitely works with Media Player Classic. Pretty sure it's OK with WMP too, but I do that a lot less often. If you try it with Media Centre, it "traps" the mouse cursor on whatever screen WMC is running on until you go from fullscreen to maximised.

It appears they may have solved the problem themselves by simply offering a specific WMP download (a wmv file)

Fucking hell, they've fixed the flash player with the new version of the desktop. It now plays full screen just fine over there <---- while I type this.

Surely the BBC's number 1 priority should be to offer a good service to it's license payers, not sell DVDs to the rest of the world.

Have you worked out how much the license fee would be if it wasn't subsidised by DVD sales?
