My Sky HD box is out of warranty by about six months, I think. It used to work fine, but since the recent update it's developed some fuck-annoying problems (such as getting 'stuck' when rewind/fast forwarding through stuff and crashing for no real reason).
Do I have a case to get it replaced for free?

My Sky+ box does those two things all the time.

I'd say if you can gather some evidence (from AV forums, for example) that lots of people are having a similar problem with the same update, then yes - as you could argue that they actively 'broke' it.

Like my colleague did with her Thomson DVR, as I just mentioned in that thread. If they fucked it up, you've got good grounds on the SoGA. Which should apply to Sky, because you pay for the box up front and/or in the subscription, it's not a gift.
You shouldn't need proof that it affects multiple boxes, it affects your box.

Without similar attestations from others though, you'll have difficulty demonstrating that it was the update that fucked the box rather than just a result of wear and tear.

my (2 year old) sky hd box does the same, and needs to be unplugged every 2-3 weeks.

My Sky+ needed to be rebooted all the time, unplugged.
Now I 'house keep' the planner every week, that seems to fix it.

My Sky+ box regularly 'breaks' (almost never when I'm there to see it, mind you, and the descriptions I'm given of said breakage are vivid to say the least) so I'm becoming uncomfortably familiar with the various button combinations on the front and on the remote (which is also shit, might I add - the green button barely works, and pausing TV or resuming TV while fastforwarding is usually a case of a swear-filled rewind after hammering the 'PLAY' button does bugger all and you fastforward past three minutes of show).
Thank you, Sky User forums.
