This is going to be painful. I would say no one care but considering how painful twitter becomes when the people you follow suddenly drop a brain size during xfactor then who knows*?

But Bah! Bah! Bah bah!

In the thread: We discuss the inability to escape from xfactor/weddings/I am celebrity get me out of here saturation of the media - and in doing so make the problem worse.

* The lowest brow'd thing I've ever watched is The Wire. Or a bbc 4 documentary.

I wouldn't mind so much, but I caught a bit of the news before, and they were going berserk. They did their usual tactic of having a guy stand outside somewhere and report nothing at all, while the news readers speculated on all sorts

You need something to keep the proles happy. Without low brow tv, we'd just be fighting outside the pub, smeared in the dirt of an honest day's toil down't pit.

What gets my goat is that it's taking the place of any actual news and it's bleeding obvious that the press knew about this ages ago, torygraph has been utterly devoid of content for the past few days and within but a few moments of the announcements they say that today's issue will be wills and kate collectible edition. I quite like the royals but never could stand Diana and the nations obsession with this rather dim uninteresting woman who did a fraction of the engagements that Princess Anne does without all the press attention.

To be fair to the papers, this event has been pondered endlessly for some time and most of them have royal correspondents so the chances of them not having a special issue ready in advance of this being announced is highly unlikely.

Like it or not, the Royal Family TM is news and they do sell papers.

I've been thinking about this for a bit and I've come to the conclusion that I could scarcely be any less interested. Either in the story itself or the surrounding media attention. Maybe it's because I don't really use Twitter but I find it pretty easy to avoid stuff like this almost entirely.

For reasons I don't think I can explain in a way that would even be satisfactory to myself, I quite like the fact that we still have a monarchy over here, so I'll admit to being vaguely interested in this, at least in a 'oh, so she will actually end up being the Queen provided we don't become a republic by then, then' kind of way.

Other than that, it is a bit non-news. I get the impression, from what little I pay attention to these things, that Bill himself probably wishes it wasn't made out to be quite such a big deal.

Personally I’m not interested in the slightest but like Zio said, I too quite like that we have a monarchy for reasons I can't understand or articulate well. It's like having a nice new shed thats entirely empty with no tools, lawnmower or anything at all inside other than the smell of a new shed, but the first chance someone comes round you'll enthusiastically take them outside and show them round this empty shed beeming with pride.

Anyway, I quite like that this has got some world press time though - makes a nice change from our perceived identity of muslim-hating-warmongers.

98% of the talk I have heard about this wedding on Twitter has been from people going on and on about how they couldn't care less about the Royal Wedding. If those people shut up, then there would be no problem.

Yeah it's a nice change to be thought of as Muslim-hating warmongers who dream of past glories and probably wish they still had an empire.
