Whoo! It already looks fucking hyper-ace. Robots changing into cars in mid-air is never going to get old.

Devastator looks ace in this, and it's good that these aren't cartoon Decepticons—they actually don't give a shit about people, which is the way it should be. From an old-timer point of view, I just hope they don't fuck up Soundwave too much. As for the ads, I got a Vic's nightrub one, and really wanted it to transform into an evil robot and jump up the sneezing woman's nose. Just getting in the TF mood!

I'm glad to see them not compromising on Devestator. The Bay mandate was that all transformers should make sense in terms of everyhting must be accounted for in the transformation - if it's a car, the end product must have all the car on it, and nothing magically else. You could suspend your disbelief wiht the cartoon n most cases but the constructicons never quite added up when you say that on TV.

Yes, apparantly this drove the FX guys absolutely mental, with them having to design out how the transform process worked. This was a big part of why the film looked so stunningly great, of course.

Given that the last Transformers movie was a hideous monstrosity that stole away several hours of my life and gave nothing but hurt in return, I'm giving this a miss.

I think they also didn't want to confuse the fuck out of the audience with things like mass-shifting, combiners, dinobots, et al, and so kept things simple for the first film.

As for Transformers as a whole, although I like some of the comics, I had no hope whatsoever regarding the first film. Then I saw the trailers and thought that might be fun. I did a 'deal' with my wife, so she'd come with me to see TF and I'd see something I didn't really care for with her. And then, of course, she admitted she wanted to see the TF film anyway. The movie itself was a big surprise—despite a few dumb moments, it was a really good action flick, with some reasonable characters (although it's annoying how easily

Holy shit! Someone call the newspapers!

We have found the one person who enjoyed the abomination that was the Transformers movie! A film so devoid of soul, interest, characters that weren't annoying and scenes where you could make out what the hell was happening that the Triple Disc DVD Edition to be released next year will actually let you in on the fact that it was all an elaborate practical joke to make the worst film in the world whilst pissing on any decent childhood memories people had of Transformers and simultaneously hooking on people who just like shiny, blurry objects without discernible personalities flying around a screen!

*ahem*

That said, Megan Fox was TREMENDOUS

But they're only Transformers in name aren't they?

The look nothing like how Transformers should look! I was happy with the cartoon Transformers but like all things, they had to go and change them.

Megatron should be a gun.

Yes, and Prime's trailer should magically roll up behind him when he transforms. And Soundwave should be a tape player - and Jetfire should be twice as big as everyone else for no reason, and Scorponok should also transform into a small town.

That'd fix it.

Apart from, you know, most of the names, characteristics, the general premise, the factions, and so on. Yeah, they looked different, but apparently Bay did a bunch of tests with cartoon-like Transformers, and they looked utterly shite. Having seen various fan-made efforts, I think Bay made the right choice.

Megatron should be a gun.

Mm. That's a really good alternate mode. In the cartoon, he even needed someone else to fire him.

Heh. You forgot that every human should magically manage to survive Decepticon fire, and that the Decepticons shouldn't be able to hit a barn door, unless the toy line has been cancelled. (Anyone else see the TF animated movie and wonder what the fuck was going on when the Decepticons suddenly and rather effectively became able to kill lots of Autobots?)

Frankly I'm shocked.

BTW, I really liked the first Transformers film, and not just for the reason given by Craster.

BIG FRICKIN' ROBOTS HAVING BARNEYS.

#2 looks aces, but it needs the dinosaurs, man. ME GRIMLOCK.

Apparently, they were considered by dismissed, because they didn't know how to integrate the dinobots. Mind you, I never really understood why they made Grimlock sound like an utter fuckwit in the comics.

Dunno about the cartoon, have never paid attention to it, but in the old Marvel comics series, Grimlock started off speaking normally, before the writers messed up with continuity and then followed the cartoon series characterisation. He's no thicko though (at least never in the comic series), he's more like Wolverine with a speech impediment, really.

Here's some more pictures of toys from the new film. If you want to be spoiled about which characters are in it. ;)

I think it depended who was writing. In the US series, Grimlock was a brain-dead psycho despot. In the UK series, he was a thoughtful and intelligent, if brash, character. When Furman took over the entire lot, he kind of merged Grimlock's two aspects.

This just gives me a mental image of a robot transforming into a 2CV a little too high up in the air, which then crashes down, falling to pieces.

Truer words have never been spoken. Except that time my missus said I had an enormous todger.

Also, what was the deal with the kid and his girl making out on top of Bumble-Bee at the end of the movie? It was like a creepy mechanized threesome.

Didn't she used to be a burlesque dancer or something? You'd think she would be used to cavorting about in pumps.
