Hi Guys

My girlfriend has hinted she would like a Nintendo DS
I dare say she wouldnt know the difference between a DS and the newer one, and frankly I dont
Is there a real reason to get the newer one? and also does anyone know of any good deals - must be new as its for a gift. prefer cheaper obviously, and some bundles would be interesting.

if its a DS she wants a red one apparently, I know the new ones are white or black only.

If you want to use one of those R$ cards they only work with DS lite (not DSi).

The browser in the DSi is pretty nifty, though, and the downloadable games are quite fun (you get some free points). They will almost certainly roll out the new colours of DSi over time...

I'm sure there were posts on Hotdealsuk to say that Morrisons are selling off their DS lites for £65 so thats much cheaper than you would pick up the DSi from.

Best I've seen - though in a far-from exhaustive survey - for the DSi is ToysRUs, which have them for smidge under £140.

DS -- cheaper (half the price), can play pirated games via a flashcart (insert special cartridge with a standard micro SD card, download ROMs from the usual sources on the internet).

DSi -- doesn't require use of crappy WEP security when connected to a WiFi network. Larger, brighter screens. Most people seem to prefer the textured finish. Cameras, although games support for that is uncertain. Downloadable games support, which I think is quite likely to be huge. Web browser, photo manipulation, music player - although those are mostly novelties. It also has twice as much RAM and a faster processor, so we may see more demanding games become DSi only, although I think those would only be downloaded and not cartridge based, so as to avoid confusing people.

My DS broke and was traded in some time ago. I think I'll get a DSi one day.
