I've just looked at my bank account, and I've been paid about £80 more than I usually do. Anyone else noticed this? Is it a new taxy-thing? Or have I got an unexpected payrise? :p

Obviously, I'll be looking at my payslip, but I probably won't get it for another week knowing work.

I can't really compare it as I got my bonus this month, plus two days double time for the BHs.

Hmmm, it must be the Bank Holidays! D'oh!

We have them off, but I think we get some kind of half-day pay for each one or something. That makes sense.

The tax section of my payslip is far too depressing to look at.

I got paid double last week because they [work] owed me a week's wages for cocking up my sick-note when I returned in January.

I just don't read my payslips at all. As long as my online banking shows roughly the correct figure added at the end of the month, that'll do.

I paid £81 before tax for my bike (first month of several, that is) under the cyclescheme thing. But that only equated to £20 less pay than the last comparable month. I've not compared the slips yet, but that was chuffing good news. And means I only have to cycle in a couple of times to save the wonga.

I'm paying £25 after tax per month for my bike over 12 months. It cost £460.

Shitty zombies!

Yeah I've had a look, but my company don't offer it. They could if I asked, but I plan to leave in September to pursue a career in law, and I'd be liable to continue to pay the bike off after I quit. Fuck the environment.

[boring]You have moved from 603L to 647L probably, providing you have no P11D-able taxable benefits in kind (cars, healthcare etc). New financial year, new tax allowances.

This means you get £6475 a year tax free allowance before you start paying 20% (and then 40% over about £42k and 50% over £150k). Also the NICS bandings have increased too. In short, redtop speak, the pound in your pocket should go further now.[/boring]

Well... I've just repaid my overdraft, almost 9 years after leaving Uni. Actually, I repaid it in full at the start of every month, and then spent the rest of the month eating into it. I've only cleared it now as we're saving up for the wedding.

Shit! That's a long time! Hopefully I can move abroad if I get a job and live there for 10 years and have my loan written off....I can but hope. Otherwise it's years of living slightly better off than being a student! :D

In fairness, I'm shit with money, and lived way beyond my means for many a year. Still, it was great fun.

So am I, that's why I spent the past 2 months living off about £150 only eating really crap food, and not drinking.

No wonder I lost over a stone in beer weight!

I appear to be getting taxed £30 less than last month. This is brilliantly silly.

£10 less for me. It's not something to do with bank holidays though, is it?

No, a slight tax drop for most people was expected this year, I think. It's due to the shifting of the bands.

I've confirmed my extra pay now as a bit of cumulative overtime from the last year. Wasn't bank holidays.

Why on earth is tax going down even a few quid for top-rate payers? They haven't thought this through.

Maybe because the cabinet and their boyfriends are top-rate payers, and the proles who were stupid enough to vote for Labour last time are still stupid enough to vote for Labour this time, so fuck 'em.

Yeah, but £30 a month? That's not really a big enough percentage of my pay packet to make me grateful for the extra moolah - just enough to make me think they've cocked up and I've got someone else's money.

I guess overall in the last 12 months, there's been inflation. As such it sort of makes sense to adjust the bands.
