Lets go back to the 80's. I was a small child on holiday in Majorca. The hotel room had curious black soap (well, dark grey) which smelt lovely. We purchased some from a shop and took it home (this was challenging for my parents who had to try and buy black soap we didn't know the name of).
It's actually made by a company called Maja and you can see some examples on Ebay:

It's not very kind to senstive skin (it makes Mrs Chinnys skin terribly dry) and when I was a kid the stuff was so heavily perfumed that it gave me a rash. But it does smell lovely and is quite unlike any UK product.
I found a pack of five small soaps the other day. Opened a box of stuff from a few years ago and the smell came wafting out. And lo and behold it was a load of Maja soap.
There's also Magno soap as well which smells simaler but is totally black. Again really odd stuff but nice soap. Check out this page:
