So, i have to buy something for my brother in law birthday. He's mostly a casual gamer and while i have gave him some good games in the past (R-Type final or Soulcalibur 3) he doesn't know what a good game is and the only game he plays is some SOCOM game he found in some obscure bargain bin. So, it seems he's fond of FPS, so what should i get him? The only ones i know are Killzone and Black.

Yep, Black's a good one. Half-Life has a PS2 exclusive co-op mode, where you play as two female scientists.

I will definitely agree with Black. Wonderful game.

One of the timesplitters maybe? I like the 2nd one best (not played the 3rd).

I liked the first red faction, the 2nd less so. I'll third black.

Timesplitters 2? I wouldnt recommend the 3rd it seemed to lose all the fun and charm of the 2nd one.

cant think of any more.

Timesplitters 2 is excellent. It's very much like Goldeneye, I think.

So it seems Black is consensual. What about Killzone 1?

I will third (or fourth) Black. It's brilliant. Looks better on the XBox, mind.

No worse than on a PC of the time. The feel of the controls *is* shit though, even for a console FPS.

Killzone 1 is a great game, apart foom the bits that make it rubbish. Like having to shoot the standard enemies with a full clip before they die.

What time? the time the pc game is released (1998 or something) or the time the ps2 game is released?

Yeah, the PS2 game was released in 2001, which means it probably does look more like a PS1 game (I think it looks slightly better than this, though).

Of course, Serious Sam. The Xbox version is superb - no idea if the PS2 one is any good.

Half-Life on PS2 has the hi-def graphics added in, so the other characters and weapons and such look pretty decent. And it's a fine game, well worth a punt.

If you want a nice looking game full of action how about God of War?
