On the Friday 6th April, the Prince Charles Cinema (on Leicester Square, London) will be showing the four Alien films, back to back, in one night.

Doors at 18:20, ends at 03:15, £25.

Who's with me?

http://www.princecharlescinema.com/even ... chor=alien

Note that the sixth is Good Friday.

BOLLOCKS. I've got to drive up to Scotland the following day.

2-3 hrs down to London on the Friday afternoon. 2-3 hrs back on the (early Saturday morning) and then a 4-5hr drive to Scotland... silly idea?

Gazchap it'd be a good excuse to get the sleeper train from London to Glasgow see, which is great fun.
edit: oh, ends at 03:15 - never mind then.

Can't shift it unfortunately, the rest of the family are going up too.

Train would be prohibitively expensive ;)

And I can't go direct from London to Clydebank as I'd have to pick up MrsChap on the way.

Ah well, never mind.

It should be noted that the 6th is Good Friday, so it's a bank holiday.

Do you object to the word 'Quadriology', or the films being on DVD?

I think it was originally released as a limited edition, which Grim... bought. Only they're still selling it.

When the Quadrilogy first came out it did so in a numbered set (of 10,000 worldwide, I think). It wasn't exactly cheap if you were a fan and a collector - especially if you wanted one to leave sealed and one to watch, which I did.
When they turned out to be absurdly popular, it appears the people making them "forgot" that they were a limited run, and just kept making them.

NINE YEARS LATER and you can get them for a fiver.

You're a sucker for believing a limited edition of something with mass appeal would be worth something in a few years time. Even if only 10,000 were made that's still a lot to command a collector's price, particularly when new collector editions are released all the time. An original big-box complete FFVII is quite rare but even so they're only worth between £40 and £50.

And no shock that a retailer would choose to profit on their own profit rather than let a consumer do it ;)

I'll shop around then, bet I can get it for way less than £15. Ta! :DD

Um... Are you sure?

Yes. Modern 'limited editions' aren't really limited or exclusive. There are usually so many re-releases and versions of a thing now that any one particular instance isn't really more valuable than the next. It's a bit of a gimmick to depart you from your cash. How many limited edition boxsets of Star Wars have there been in various forms? Are they valuable? Not really, because they were all mass marketed to death.

The value tends to hold in things that were genuinely limited back when they were released. Something minimally rated at the time but becomes popular and sought after later.
