So, what are you having for dinner tonight?

Just got done prepping mine. It's all gone into the slow cooker.

Rabbit stew with carrots, leek and swede (chopped). All sat in gravy (slightly reduced to stop it going sticky).

It'll cook for about 6-7 hours then it'll be yums.

So does anyone cook? what's on the menu?

I'm driving home. So the options are either an overpriced scrotum burger at a miserable service station en route or whatever I can find in darkened corners of increasingly empty cupboards before I go.

Yeah I was saving this rabbit all week for either the weekend or friday.

I don't eat out much any more (inc fish and chips) because of the prices. It's just ludicrous.

Using the slow cooker is extremely easy. Ten mins of prep and that's it. Of course it has it's merits though. Meat in it is like nothing else, especially pork & spare ribs. There really is only one way to cook pork and that's slow and long at a lower temp.

I do get the odd kebab (like one every 6 months) but even that is just laced with shitty salad (like, one piece of fookin tomato) and hardly has any meat in and costs 6 pound fifty.

For 6 pound fifty I can get 2 steaks at my butchers.

You're going to the wrong kebab house. When I get one it's £4 and a lot more meat than I can eat (and I'm a man who can eat a lot of meat. Er.)

It's 'over a barrel' town here.

There are no delivery companies (Pizza hut, Dominoes) and so on so they have all jacked their prices up.

Which of course is dumb because then they sell half the ammount.

Only way to get something fast & greasy without having your pants down is to drive to somewhere like Bognor Regis and that's about 25 miles away.

Not much here tbh. We do however have a sublime butcher and it's at the end of our house row. So I usually get all my meat in there (their chicken is to die for).

They hand make sausys to order too, which is awesome.

I cheated. (hey at least I'm honest). The rabbit was a gift from my uncle who does deliveries for his local butcher. Every now and again he scores some awesome meat (like Turkey wings. We had hundreds of them over xmas !) so I didn't need to gut this bugger.

Done a few Deer whilst in the USA. Venison is just incredible when you eat it within hours of it walking breathing and pooing.

When I lived in Ohio the bloke nextdoor used to have them hanging from a tree sliced wide open in his front garden :D

Every time we went outside (housemate had 2 little girls) you'd hear the girls go ewwwwwww and there would be a deer slowly rotating around on the tree haha.

You'd think so, but there's that much you can do with it and that many varieties... plus you can swap it for moneys or barter with farmers.

Learn to kick the shit out batter your fish and fry them properly and you end up with better fish than most chippies give you anyway. My chippy is great though, for £4 you get a tasty bag of fish n chips suitable for feeding 2 people.

I have been on junk food all week with the wife being in hospital... and not getting home late.

I will be booking Mrs C fav resturant as soon as she wants to go out.

There is something rewarding about a nice meal in a resturant.

I think it wall be fish and chips tonight, if Kov junior does not grace the world with it's pressence

It tastes nothing like it does here, there.

Probably because Mcds are in trouble and have started to really cut out the sodium and fat.

In the US macdonalds is greasy and good (if youre in the mood for that) but it's horrible for you. And people have wisened up lately here and that's why Mcds are advertising healthier food.

I don't like battered fish any way tbh. I always bread mine.

Faves are Large mouth bass (very similar to seabass but more meaty and wild tasting) cod and plaice (or flounder).

I do that every month or so using fresh toast in the food proc for breadcrumbs.

I've never been a fan of batter..

Sorry man, but you are a freak, how can you be British and not like fish and chips from a chips shop.

I think we need to get you deported to the 'Land of the Free'

I'll more than likely just cook some pasta, whack some ham and mushrooms in, then bake it with loads of cheese on top.

Miss Malabar is on some sort of diet, so I have to make all my disgustingly calorific meals for one these days. Apparently her body can't handle it as well as mine: sucka!

Cod from English fish and chips shops have been on the decline for ages. You can get nice stuff if you pay, of course, but the traditional chip shop (which is cheap) tends to have soggy stuff that's been left in the warming thing for ages.

In Ireland (including the north), you can go to any cheap chip shop and get really nice cod with nice batter.

I reckon it's because they sell a wider range of stuff, here. The one I go to in ireland doesn't even sell kebabs.

I had a good chippy last night, half pizza in batter supper with curry sauce...yum yum!

Tonight I might make home made burgers, although my Mrs stupidly casually mentioned Nandos to me and once I hear that magical word I can't rest until I have one, so I will have to see if I can convince her that a drive to Glasgow is worth it just for some dinner.

No fish and chip shops here sell kebabs. Kebab shops sell chips, but never fish. Those be orthogonal specialities.

My local chippy sells everything, from the usual chips, fish, burgers and sausages to Chinese, Thai and kebabs. It's not bad, either.

Hell yeah! Is that weird? I thought pizza was normal for a chippy. My favourite thing from the chip shop is either half pizza in batter with curry sauce, or haggis in batter. Both are equally delicious.

On the kebab shop/chippy thing, round here you get a chippy or a kebab shop. I can't think of one which combines the two except for perhaps some rubbish ones in glasgow.

Can anyone find that Simpsons clip of the food fair? The one with the underground kitchen slopping meat on different conveyor belts going to each stall?
