Just thought I'd ask on the off-chance someone here owns one of these drives since I know they're quite popular.

I've got a 500GB one but I lost the power supply last year.
Wasn't using it at the time but now I need to use it again so I'm after a new power supply for it.

Don't think you can buy "official" replacement power supplies but Maplins do them.
Only problem is that they need to know the specs (Voltage and what-not) of the supply so they can sell me the correct equivalent.

These specs will be printed on the power supply, so if anyone has one (either a 500GB or 250GB model - they both use the same power supply), could you let me know the details, thanks.

Alternatively, if anyone has a spare power supply they'd be prepared to sell (and could get it to me by the weekend if I pay via paypal or bank transfer), let me know, cheers.

We have a few of these in work. I'll look to see if there are any that match yours.

According to this, it's 24W 12V 2A. Check whether the model they reference is the same as yours mind.

Thinking on, we checked some PSUs for these things -- they were 12V, and either 1 or 1.5 amp.

Cheers for the helpful replys.

Posted this on another board too, and got a reply quoting the same specs as Craster mentioned so I'm sure that will be correct (and I believe you have to be sure when it comes to hard-drive power supplies if you don't want to risk your drive going "boom").

Might have someone willing to sell me an "official" MyBook power supply too (he's going to look for it tomorrow), though if that doesn't work out at least I've got the right specs to give Maplins for an equivalent supply (though I'm fairly sure they'll rape me up the arse price-wise).

Maplins do a variable transformer for a tenner, so shouldn't be too bad.

To find out what voltage it needs, dip it into a glass of lucozade. The colour of the froth indicates the potential gap.

I have one of these. The 1TB variety. I don't have any spare power supplies and I'm sure the people already in this thread can help out with info before me.

Went to Maplins earlier today (and took my drive and the power-supply specs people have quoted me).

They told me the variable transformer wasn't suitable and that I'd need to pay £22.95 for a suitable replacement (the ripping bar-stewards, the drive only cost me £50...).

Got back to the guy who thought he had an "official" Mybook power supply (on HotUKdeals) and he found it and is selling it me for £8 delivered (should be on it's way to me now).

Thanks again for the comments/help.
