Grim...s DoW thread got me thinking that I should install VMware & Windows on my MacbookPro for shits and giggles.

Is WMware still the best solution?

What version of Windows should I install (It's for games use only)

Any other tips and pitfalls to bear in mind?

The main pitfall is that VMware Fusion, although the best solution for virtualisation, really isn't that great for gaming. For that, you need to be using Boot Camp. For general use, Fusion and XP Pro seem fine on my Mac.

Cheers Craig. That's very handy to know.

It really is just for gaming, as ALL the apps I need workwise run in X.

I tried the VMWare Fusion demo on my netbook. I used the existing XP partition as the virtual machine, and it did work. But, it was pretty slow on this small machine, and it also made XP think I was trying to pirate it, because it asked for the product key again (and then again when I switched back to running it natively).

So I decided it was more hassle than it's worth and just boot into XP "for reals" when needed.

So Kalmar you're running OsX on PC hardware to run VMware to run windows apps, and it didn't go smoothly?
:D

Grim... I'm working on it, just need a yarred Windows of some variety. What's recommended for DoW?

Heh, now that you put it like that it does seem vaguely silly :)

Hmmm.

Tried installing XP on a Bootcamp partition over the weekend, but WIndows only saw the harddisk as 'one lump' which would have wiped everything.

I think (according to my nerdling about) it's the build of Windows with SP2 that I'm using. How many builds/versions are there? Yes it's yarred.
