Need For Speed : Shift 2 has been released, which has crept up on me!
I loved the first one, especially for the sense of speed, so will most likely pick this baby up at some point in the near future. The main selling point seems to be an internal view that is linked to the helmet of the driver, rather than a fixed position, which will be interesting to use.

Anybody else interested? I'm most likely going to be getting on the PS3 so I can use my fabby wheel, but it apparently has online leaderboards and the like and I have many more friends on Xbox Live rather than PSN.

Decisions, decisions.

After all the fuss about the last Need For Speed game, I played it twice and it has sat on the shelf ever since. Total waste of money.

I enjoyed Shift, but couldn't be arsed putting it back into the Xbox after my initial play. It's pretty much just That Racing Game™ again.

Bought it on the 360 in the end, but trading it it tomorrow.

Out of the box the handling is awful, by playing with the settings and using the settings from the last game, you can manage to get it playable, if not perfect.
However, if playing on the pad, it's still too twitchy, and is a lesson in concentration if you want to play it that way, you never really get into any sort of flow, as it is less about driving the car and more about thinking about how much to move the sticks on the controller, if that makes sense.
On the wheel, you can get the car to flow a lot easier, sure the cars don't feel anywhere close to GT5 realism, but it's not awful. There is one unforgivable problem that can't be dialled out in the settings though, and that is that the controls lag. Move your hands on the wheel, and the on screen wheel reacts about 2/10ths of a second behind you. It doesn't sound like much, but it totally screws up your ability to react to anything the car is doing, and massively increases the feeling of floatiness that is already there.

Very annoying, as underneath that, there is actually quite a good game fighting to get out.

If you want to know what the problem with the lag is, then this video shows it perfectly.

It appears to be in all variants of the game, be it 360 or PS3.

More videos and testing here show that it isn't just the animation that it lagging, it is the actual input for the car.

edited to add, this one shows it perfectly in game

Completely hopeless, i'm taking it back and i'll buy it again if they fix it

I remember a lot of people accusing the first game of handling problems.

Anyway, not really interested. There are much better simulation-type games out there. EA should keep NFS to arcade handling.

The first game had poor handling, but you could adjust the settings to make it reasonable.
The second game is just broken :(

So, I took this back as part of my tradein for my 3DS and got £28 for it.

It's now in the Game sale for £25, and apparently there is a patch due that will fix the input lag problems!
If that proves to be true, i'll most likely buy it again :)
