So, yes. Media players. You know in WMP you can right click your taskbar along the bottom and add in a little mini box of controls that's out of the way? Well it doesn't work in XP64 because they were too freaking lazy to make a 64bit dll. All the Winamp plugins are 32 bit, as well.

I know hardly anyone runs XP x64, but has anyone encountered a player other than WMP even on Vista x64 where the "deskband" controls actually work? If so, I would imagine they'll work on XP x64 as well.

Not that it's a massive concern as my media keys on my keyboard work just fine, but I fancy a change. I suppose I could add in a sidebar like Vista's but to be honest I don't really get on with them.

Any other sensible suggestions are of course welcome.

Hang on - do you mean when you minimise WMP and it goes onto the taskbar? Because XP64 does that fine, I'm sure (I could check, though).

It'll minimise like every other application, but on 32 bit XP (and Vista I assume) you can add a Toolbar to the Start bar with play controls on it rather than having the standard button. Kind of like how you add a Quicklaunch toolbar to the Start bar. 64 bit Explorer cannot integrate with 32 bit DLLs, and the controls DLL for WMP is a 32 bit only one.

I'm 99.9% positive I was doing this on my XP64 PC.

Exactly like that, yes. I can't do it on mine, and numerous other people can't either.

My Vista64 just didn't do it. I detest that behaviour so I've never noticed.

Dx10 stuff appears to run a fair bit slower than Dx9 stuff, but I think the stuff that was Dx9 anyway isn't really that much slower assuming you've got the computer to run Vista in the first place. Run it properly, mind.

Did I say Megabit

"Millibit, a (rare) unit of information equal to one thousandth of a bit [1]"

e-penis has shrivelled up inside, died, fallen off, been sat on and put in the bin.

You miss Sheepeh's point. He's trying to be "humourous" ;) by pretending your lack of capitalisation means you have 2Mbits of RAM, not 2MBytes. Or "256MB" for short.

2MBytes is acceptable for Vista, but no better than that.

I just had a go, I thought I remembered having this too (Vista 64 home premium)

Right click on the taskbar, toolbars-> windows media player. If this is ticked, when WMP is minimised the bar will be there next to the notification area.

Technically the function is in the program in XPx64, it's just that it installs a 32 bit version on a 64 bit OS, and 32bit dlls can't interact with a 64 bit Explorer. I could just load the 32 bit Explorer shell and it should work but frankly it can fuck off for that. I suppose it could be possible to manually hack in a Vista dll but that seems a bit liable to break things.

Never mind, if there isn't a player that can do it x64 native that isn't WMP then I guess I simply won't bother.
