Be Excellent To Each Other

I could do with a new camcorder. At the moment I have a Sony Handycam DCR-TRV245. Great camera and has served me well for the 5 years I've had it. It's Digital-8 and has a nightshot mode (that uses IR to illuminate) and a light that can be turned on to illuminate the surroundings when not in nightshot.

However, the tapes only have a 90 minute maximum recording time which isn't enough for what I want (videoing the antics of my spider all night).

So, with this in mind, I need a new camcorder. Things I need it to do are:

- be a hard disk camcorder (or at least something capable of recording for 8 hours non-stop, plugged into the mains obv.)
- have an IR-illuminated nightvision
- have a standard light that can be switched on (and remain on until recording stops)
- have a tripod mount (I expect 100% of 'em will have this though)

Any recommendations? Not fussed about it recording in high-definition, and I don't have that much of a budget. I'd say I could just about stretch to £300.

So fucking lovely it's untrue. My mate has one and we used it to shoot true 720p footage back in August. It was awesome.

Although Chinny is the expert on this sort of stuff, I have a HDR SR10E which does HD and is superb but costs about £450. But it's little brother is the non-hd DCR SR55E (£280 at Amazon), which we have at work and is equally good.
It doesn't have the light, but it does have the IR and I believe you can buy a separate light that fits on the top if you find you can't live without it.

Speak to one of the excellent staff. They have consumer level stuff but specialise in pro kit. They'll be able to advise and their pro prices are very keen. They know their onions so well worth speaking to.

I bought my PDX10 and Z1 from them, both tripods and a shed load of other gear. They know their stuff and are really friendly.
