Morning all.

Mali Tower's kitchen seems to have become infested with little white mites. I don't know what they are or where they come form, so any help or information greatly appreciated.

That's the first time MRSA has been referred to in this manner.

Burn the kitchen! I would, uuugh >.<

Open all the windows and get rid of all the stuff they like to eat, mites HATE the cold and will die fairly quickly.
I'm all itchy now

Hi. Flour mites are uncommon, and predominantly are found where flour or bread is too damp. You cannot eliminate the problem until you find WHICH container(s) actually are the source, and remove ALL of them. They *are* fairly picky in their food choice, and if you can remove the contaminated container(s), and keep the replacement products in your fridge or freezer (where the surviving mites can't reach them) then they will die off - you might have several thousand still running around, but it will be several thousand desperate little mites with nothing they can eat, and we all know how that will end. Work hard to prevent any reoccurrence by ALWAYS keeping grain products dry in airtight closed containers (jars or tupperware). Never apply insecticides in storage cupboards and areas containing food! Again: (1) remove what they are eating, and (2) starve the survivors out. It may take a week or so, but you CAN kill them off that way.

I picked that up by searching a few sites for you

EDIT:
This may help too, packed full of household questions and answers

Mali,

Get rid of all of your dry goods. Any flour, wheat, rice. If MrsA has one of those bean bags with lavender that you microwave and use for period pains, get rid of that, too (they are known to harbour such things, also)

Clean your cupboard with some Dettol solution.

Make sure that your (newly bought - you chucked the old ones out, remember) dry goods aren't stored in a cupboard that is above either your stove or where you boil your kettle, as the steam causes dampness in the dry goods which attracts the mites.

Apparently best stuff is Milton to clean it out, just been researching for you. Also use plastic containers instead of the bags, some people freeze them before-hand aswell...but I don't really see any point to that if you put them in plastic containers. Nothing will get past that :)

Hope the buggies are gone soon-icky

What you want to do is introduce a bunch of predators, and then a bigger predator to deal with them, and so on and so forth.

Play some White Stripes and hope that the spirit of competition compels the little critters to form their own music-beat combo, then sweep them into a pan whilst they're distractedly tuning their instruments.

This reminds me of that 'There once was a woman who swallowed a fly' do you remember that story?

She lived, patented her discovery, and you'll find it hitting the shops this Xmas. The Turducken is old news - the Flidircadogow is what all the cool* kids are eating this year!

Couldn't see any this morning, so a combination of chucking stuff out and bleach seems to have done something.

Good! Glad the buggies are gone. I'd have come round with a flame thrower else, that would have sorted 'em :)

Ah! That's it, I forgot about the horse! Well done SA

Hmmm....is it too early for Bomberman...hehehe

Wherever they go, they are unwelcome. Such is the white mite's burden.
