Basically register your interest, create a mix cd (either as a mix or as just a CD with some tracks). Create artwork if you like and then by a certain date send a copy out to two of the other random people on the forum and hopefully you'll receive two yourself. You'd be notified of their addresses via PM as the whole thing is done kind of anonymously.

On the Triforum people generally prefer not to have the track list until after they've listened so it's up to you whether you include the track list or not.

I've done this on other forums and I really love the idea. Unfortunately, whenever I've been involved there's always been people who haven't sent on the CDs and it becomes a right pain.

Put me down as cautiously interested.

Yes, count me in. In a bizarre case of serendipity I was thinking only Friday that it would be a good idea to resurrect the UGVM mixclub that fell apart due to the founder turning into a WOW addict. And I was going to suggest it in here!

Having been through the palaver of getting people to review music that they receive may I suggest sticking to just one CD at a time, as some people will cram 20+ tracks onto a CD given half a chance and it then becomes a lengthy process to get a review written - moreso if you have two of the things to do, natch.

But yes, I think it's an excellent idea - cost me a bloody fortune in album purchases though :D

Colour me interested!! I agree with there being some rules though.. perhaps one CD with a limited number of tracks? 16 or so?

But still... Great idea!!

I don't see any need for any restrictions at all. Just send some people some nice music. Theme it if you want or don't. It's up to you. One I did this year had about 12 or 13 tracks just because it seemed the right amount. Other people have done lots more.

Oh and I meant 2 copies of the one CD.

I'm vaguely interested but given the sheer love of metal on this forum (which to be honest is just white noise to me) I'm probably best out :)

I'm not going to put any metal on mine, if that helps.

Um, yes.

I think I'll give this miss, because I'm awful at listening to mixes I received properly and tend to do "amusing" (i.e. not amusing) concept reviews to try and cover the fact that I haven't bothered putting them in my CD player after several weeks.

Oh yeah, whoops, I do this too. Better count me out. I love making mix cds but rarely listen to others' as I'm an ignorant little cunt.

There's no requirement for reviews of the mix. It's just a music exchange that's all really.

Can someone clever come up with a clever way of automating the randomisation of who gets whose cds? In a way that doesn't result in some people getting three cds and other people getting none and people sending to themselves? Sure I could do it manually but still..

So... is the idea that the mix CD we each create contains stuff the receivee is not likely to have heard before or can it be a mix of any music the creator just happens to like at that time?

I'm certainly interested in this.

Okay, everyone who is in, send me your addresses so they can be entered into some kind of database of doom which will be leaked to various junk mail outfits...

I suggest we give a deadline of 1st of September to get everything done. Aim to ship out then.

Should we be using alias in the address? Because don't some people know other people's real names?

I'm happy with Real forename "forum alias" real surname.

It's only going to be me or the missus getting the post anyway so I'm ok with that.

Jst provide your address in whatever way you wish. Whatever you send to me is what the other person will receive.

The idea of course is that the mix CD is done before you get the addresses. I intend to supply those on the 1st of September.

Going to reveal yourself to be a big Boyzone fan then? Of course I know from past experience you like a bit of synthy stuff as well. Not that I'd have any objection to your hard stuff.

7 addys so far! Keep 'em coming!

Is it going to have either of the Heather Nova tracks in your last.fm thing there? Because I was going to put something off Storm on mine...

Bugger. Still, awesome song.

I'll have to replace it with some Exploding Clitoral Decay, or something.

Right, after working on it for most of the evening my track list is done. No idea how it will be received but sod it.

Are there any recommendations on what software to use to finalise a cd? Not mixing it or anything but just chopping a few seconds off the end of songs and normalising the sound levels and stuff like that.

Wha? :S

I was just gonna burn songs straight across, will that not be ok?

Also, if there aren't many of us would it be better to just do 1 disc? I don't mind doing two, but I'd rather concentrate on listening to one at a time when I get it/them.

I just want my cd to flow a little better, and the mp3's come from loads of different places and some are louder than others so I want to sort that out. I'm just a little bit anal when it comes to making CD's but I haven't done one for years and just wondered if there is any easy to use software out there these days.

I'm just a fiddler when it comes to this sort of thing.

It's not like there's going to be any time limit in listening. Once you've got the CD, listen to it whenever.

I'd like to say yes but I'd be surprisingly unlikely to actually get around to making a CD. So if you'd all like to, you know, just upload yours somewhere, that'd be great thanks.

And: YES. Count me in for the piratical sharing of 90s indie music.
