Following a discussion elsewhere I worked out my Bacon Number today (the Six Degrees Of Kevin Bacon number).

I went with concrete connections where people knew/worked with/were related to others rather than ‘met’ as I met a bunch of famous people when I was younger, and I got three, I think.

I was in the same class as > Lateef Lovejoy (Lateef Abu when we were kids) in primary and secondary school, who was in The Dark Knight with > Heath Ledger, who was in Casanova with > Oliver Platt who was in Lover Boy with > Kevin Bacon

I wondered who had the lowest Bacon number? Maybe Squirt due to Mrs Squirt’s appearances in various films? Or is there a closer one here?

My sister went to school with Simon Pegg, who was in some Ice Age thing with Queen Latifah, who was in some other film with Kevin Bacon.

So I guess that makes mine 4 and hers 3

I think that makes you a three and your sister a two as you only count the steps between you and KB, so for you the steps are Craster’s Sister > Simon Pegg > Queen Latifah

I think Lateef's Bacon number is 3 there, and yours would be 4

Kevin = 0
Oliver = 1
Heath = 2
Lateef = 3

Mine is 3 or 2 (depending on if you include my wife's friend as my friend or not - she went to Drama School with a lot of actors who are very famous now)

D can get to 3 multiple different ways, so I guess that makes me a 4

A complete aside, but Simon Pegg was the waiter at mine and my friends birthday when I was younger. It was at Chiquito. One of my friends has a photo of me standing on a table with my friend and him and the other chap he made the films with holding two plates of cream with Malteasers on top.

They were all being super nice and attentive as we’d booked for 24 people WAY in advance (because my friend d and I are both born December 20th and you get the Christmas diners) and somebody had entered the booking into the book for the following year, so we had to go elsewhere for a couple of hours and come back where they kept open a bit later, but it was good.

So if we go with casual meetings like that, I suppose it could be a two? But with solid ‘I knew this person for many years’ it’d be three.

I was trying to find this out but the sites that show the calculating number shows you don’t count yourself or KB, so that would be three, no?

me > LATEEF > HEATH > OLIVER > kevin bacon

Because you are counting the seperating factors. Some people have a KB number of 0, and otherwise that wouldn’t be possible for anyone other than KB himself.

I think she counts as your friend if she is also your friend? Though if it’s your wife’s friend only then I think you’d count your wife as an additional separating step.

In that case i'm a 3 and D is a 2 (one example is she does the botox of an actress, which I think counts as more than a "met them once in passing"?)

I was using the Bacon Oracle (as linked by Trooper above) which counts links rather than separations.

I'd always assumed that's how they were calculated, but I guess both are valid

She's Pauline's friend, but I've known her for about the same length as I've known Pauline, we've stayed in each other's houses, she's the godmother of my eldest son, but she doesn't call me separately from calling Pauline. So it probably does include that extra step.

No way. You stay in someone’s house and they are godparent to your child then you definitely know them! Like, more than the Botox thing, I’d hope!

So if you’re a two then anyone here who has met you* is at most a three.

*or knows you well online, depending what you class as a link.

My wife has a Bacon Number of 2 - she was an extra in a film with Michael Sheen, who was in Frost / Nixon with Kevin Bacon. That gets me a 3 then!

Mine is surprisingly low, the only famous connection I can think of is that I once lent a calculator to John Light for an exam (he was a year, or maybe 2, above me in school, and one of my friends knew him), he was married to Neve Campbell, who was in Wild Things with Kevin Bacon.

Looking at his IMDb page, he'd have been 4 years above me.

I used to hang around with Sid "RICKIIIIIiI" Owen, who was in Revolution with Donald Sutherland, who was in Animal House with Kev.

I also used to live next door to Dylan Moran off of Black Books. He was in Notting Hill with Julia Roberts, who was in Flatliners with Kevin Bacon, so another 3.

Fuck me, and I work with part time jobbing actress Jordan Baker, who was in Childless with someone called Joe Mantegna, who was in Queens Logic (sp) with Mr Bacon. Cashing in the 3s.

Closest I can get is 3.

I filmed a documentary with Brian Glover when I was about 6 (well, I met him during said filming, and he was “on set” in a part of the filming that I was in)

He was in Ordeal By Innocence with Donald Sutherland, who was in JFK with Kevin Bacon.

Although I'm disappointed he didn't go via Flatliners (Tom Woodruff) and Alien³ (Glover).

You don't count Bacon, but you do count you - otherwise someone like Tom Cruise would have 0 degrees of separation, which would make him Kevin Bacon.
