So there's this:

http://www.nohopeleft.com/

It's teasing an announcement of some sort at 14:00 PST. Whenever that is. According to folk "in the know" (or someone doing a whois search, probably), the site is owned by Capcom and is strongly suspected to be Resident Evil related. Apparently they did a similar blog-style viral marketing campaign for Resi 5, so that doesn't bode well for innovation.

Rumours are of Chris and Leon being the main characters. I hope it isn't shitty perma-co-op like 5. I also hope it's properly scary again. Fingers crossed.

edit: 14:00 PST is 22:00 our time.

Resident Evil 6: Chris Redfield and Leon Kennedy Playable
As a potential announcement approaches, more details about Capcom's next horror game emerge.
January 19, 2012
by Richard George

For the first time in Resident Evil history, Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield will both be playable characters in Capcom's ambitious six main entry in its survival horror series. Sources within the development team have started to give IGN a broad picture of the game's scope, which certainly seems larger than any Resident Evil title we've seen so far. This news comes on the heels of the leaked logo and release date for the game.

Chris Redfield and Leon Kennedy will not be alone in this new game. Both Chris and Leon will have unnamed partners of their own, teaming up in similar fashion to the Chris Redfield/Jessica Sherawat and Jill Valentine/Parker Luciani pairings in Resident Evil Revelations. Sources tell us Chris and Leon will have seperate stories in the game that will eventually overlap in some capacity.

We're also told Ada Wong will have a playable role in the game, though not immediately. It appears as though the Ada storyline will become available to players after the Chris and Leon arcs have been completed, plus a third primary narrative featuring a new character. Any of the three main story branches will be selectable early on in the game, allowing players to see each storyline through to completion before starting another one.

Resident Evil 6 is also set to take place across the globe, including China, which has been an often-rumored location for months. VentureBeat reports the RE6 development team is the "same internal Japanese team that has worked on previous entries." That same report suggests this game is being styled after both Resident Evil 4 and 5, attempting to find a middle ground between horror and action.

When contacted, Capcom stated it would not comment on rumors, reports or speculation. IGN sources have also given us the Resident Evil 6 logo and release date.

Capcom is expected to officially reveal - or continue to tease - Resident Evil 6 later today through its viral "No Hope Left" site. Stay tuned for more.

From IGN. I won't link because it's a truly awful site.

Also, RE5 was the second-best single player Resident Evil. And in co-op, it was the actual best.

Surely Resi 2 is second best.

:this: I couldn't be arsed with RE5 for that reason. If RE6 is the same, I'll skip it.

Resi 5 was good but everything after and including the ship boss was shit. Plus it's not scary. Plus the industrial latter half levels are identikit rubbish.

And so not second best.

Resident Evil remake on the GC is the best. RE5 is second best as it's the only one I've ever finished (thanks Dimrill!)

So if it is real, and it comes out in march, that will be three years after RE5. That seems an appropriate amount of time. My RE itch is flaring up again. It's an exciting idea again, unlike yearly CODage.

I think the Co-Op moaning was unfair, it was different and interesting and worked. Killed the scares, but was trying something new - I can get behind that.

RE1 to RE3 have huge historical worth. Never played three but 1 and 2 were amazing when I played them. But they are shite now.

This isn't Links Awakening, or Sonic on the Mastersytem or Super Mario World. This is a game that is the opposite of fine wine. It has rotted.

That said, I would be really, really interested in another scary RE. Updated somehow. Or whatever.

Have to admit, I agree with this. I downloaded some roms recently and the gameplay is just awful. Everything else still holds up - although the low-res pre-rendered graphics look shonky - but they're just bloody impossible to play now. Tank controls. Urgh.

The best Resi game after RE4 was Eternal Darkness. ;)

For fuck's sake.

Did they not listen to any of the criticism 5 got? This better be fucking scary. I don't want someone running around with me breaking the tension and getting in my way during my singleplayer time. Happy for multiplayer co-op, but please not that again!

Like 84% on Metacritic?

And classic RE tank controls were shit at the time, not just now.

I lived with them at the time, though.

Yeah, 84%! I want my Resi games to be 9s or even 10s. Resi 4 was absolutely outstanding. 5 was a step back in my opinion. Totally lost its unsettling scariness.

RE4 on the GC, and then the Wii were the best of the bunch. RE5 was great, but Sheva used to spunk ammo like crazy so you restrict her use of it, but then she'd use up all your 'erbs because she was shit with a knife. I would have preferred a solo player game, as i do with pretty much any game. I hate having ai drones helping me out with big battles. I like to kill em all.

RE1 was shit scary. The bag on the head chainsaw guys in RE5 came close, but they were frustrating rather than scary.

I will buy it.

Loved pretty much all the RE games as they've been released. RE4 and the Gamecubes 0 & 1 being the highlights. RE 5 was great, would have liked to have finished the co-op play through with you Doc but you put a woman and Internet fame before me.

I think I'm the only person who still finds the originals playable. Certainly the Gamecube remake is - I went through it a couple of months ago and had a blast!

Trailerrrr! It looks like two (or three?) games in one! Leon with a more slow-paced, stuck in a small town story, Chris with an action packed almost Gears style big city-based story and some other character as well? Hmmm. Certainly looks interesting!

Best of both worlds? I wants me some proper scares in the Leon bit!

And timely enough a bit like Resi 2 through Resi 4 specs. I don't often get excited about games but that made my night.

It's sounding good! Plenty of value for money with three stories plus an Ada story to unlock?! I love how the Resi games always have so much stuff bundled in with them.

Oh my - thats xmas sorted.

Talking of which, coming out in november, multiple characters in a globe trotting story of epic world fucking up status, lone rogues and a special ops teams?

This is Capcoms answer to Call of Duty isn't it?

Mark my words a substantial multiplayer COD-a-like will be announced for it. Mercenaries with COD like leveling up and such like.

He was answering Lave's post above about Operation Racoon City not Resi6

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005 ... d_i=468294

Due out on the 23rd of March

Quote:
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City delivers a true third-person team-based shooter experience set within the dark and sinister Resident Evil universe. Not only does this setting provide a rich backdrop to the action but it also delivers a unique and brutal triple-threat battle. Zombies and Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W.s) add to the mix as players compete against their team’s opposing squad and tackle this third, unpredictable element that could only exist in the twisted Resident Evil universe.

The result is a brand new style of gameplay that breaks the conventions of traditional third person shooters. It is September 1998 and the action centres on the ill-fated Raccoon City. When the Umbrella Corporation learns that one of its top scientists, Dr. William Birkin, plans to sell the experimental G-Virus to the US Government they order an elite team of Umbrella Security Service (USS) soldiers led by Hunk into their secret research facility to secure the only known sample of the virus. The operation takes a turn for the worse when Dr. Birkin injects himself with the last vial, mutating into a deadly creature, G-Birkin and over powering the team. During the battle the deadly ‘t-Virus’ is leaked into the sewers and spread through Raccoon City, infecting the entire population.

Hearing of the outbreak, the USS team is given fresh orders to destroy all evidence of Umbrella’s involvement and silence anyone that might discover the truth. The Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure service (UBCS) is also deployed to help contain the situation. Meanwhile the US Government has quarantined the city and dispatched its own team of special operatives to determine the source of the mysterious outbreak. Caught up in the chaos are rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. Players take on the role of an Umbrella Security Soldier (U.S.S) and battle against all the competing forces at play in Raccoon City. Choose from six characters, each one equipped with a unique skill set, including the female field scientist Four-Eyes who can manipulate the T-virus and take control of the B.O.W’s raiding the streets of Raccoon City or the weapons expert and U.S.S team captain Lupo.

Features:

Team based shooter set in the dark and sinister Resident Evil universe.
Triple threat battle as zombies and B.O.W’s add to the action.
Return of favourite RE enemies, including Hunters, Tyrants and the Nemesis.
Risk infection from the hordes of zombies, zombie dogs and lickers. Fight to survive with anti-viral sprays, your character’s special skills or help from field scientist Bertha before your character’s condition worsens, turning you into a violent zombie who will attack your own team members.
Compete with up to three friends as an Umbrella Security Service squad member in Campaign mode.
Choose from six U.S.S characters, each with their own unique skill set and roles.
Rewrite the history of the Raccoon City outbreak. Destroy all evidence of Umbrella’s involvement at the City Hall and discover UBCS operative Nicholai Ginovaef’s true intentions.
Explore Raccoon City, collecting evidence and intel to report back to Umbrella command.
Competitive online multiplayer modes provide a unique gaming experience thanks to the three corner combat between the Umbrella Security Service, US Special Ops and threat of zombies and B.O.W’s.

So basically a COD / GOW type game based in the Resident Evil universe - it looks okay but i'll wait to see what the reviews say

That trailer looks quite good. "It's Racoon City all over again." All we really needed to know, right?

I am playing RE remake right now. It seems even harder than the original, incredibly. I never had any problem with tank controls, though, quite the opposite. As long as the gameplay isn't too fast and you are moving along narrow corridor-like spaces rather than big open areas, they are still the only thing that works properly with the kind of games where the camera angle changes abruptly all the time.

Yeah. Final Fantasy VII is sort of the same controls-wise. I'm not saying I can't use them, I'm just saying they've been bettered and the standard of 3D game controls these days - even in the shittest games - is much higher and more intuitive. Going back to that was pretty tough.

You shut your mouth! And... It is!

Fixed camera angles and you move your character around each screen. Okay, it doesn't have "tank" controls, but I did say "sort of the same". :p

That's a loose old "sort of". It makes Space Harrier "sort of the same" too :)

The second search result down on the page I quoted from Gaywood should give you a big old hint.

Logo lols.

Also, Chris' partner is called Beards Nevence. I want to play as player two in a co-op game so I can be Beards.

That trailer for Resi 6 looks brilliant and certainly has my attention. Resident Evil is a game series that I really regret not playing at the time. I played either the first or second one, where you started in a town near a crashed bus then walked round the corner to a gun store and then to a police station. I really liked it but it scared the hell out of me and i couldn't play it alone. I'm guessing it was the second one because I was old enough to be home alone, but I was still only fourteen. I didn't complete it and barely remember the story.
Then I missed out on all the next ones because I was too busy going out and drinking and stuff, so when resi 5 was released I didn't really get excited because I just end up feeling annoyed I've missed the rest.
I wish that when a big series like this had new games released they could do an updated bundle of all the previous games for people who like to be involved in the whole backstory but that's a bit unrealistic. :P
I missed Halo 1 and 2 as well and never got into the sequels really and I think it's mainly because I didn't really know what the story was. I got the remake of the first one for my birthday yesterday though.
