Having recently unpacked my PSP, I have put a couple of series's of this on it and am powering my way through them.

I'm not sure it's actually any good.

Barney's good. Fucking good. His origin episode was superb. Although we've seen him before, he's the best one. Of them. He's so good he carries a properly below-par rest of the show.

Everything (except Barney) is so fucking sweet and sickly - it's like the Cosby show.

Oh, and the canned laughter needs to fuck off, but that's true of 90% of US shows (Scrubs showed that you didn't need it, of course).

Is series 2 any better?

It's pretty much level in terms of quality. Some shows are outright hilarious, some a bit dull.

Barney does carry it. But that's fine. Because it's Barney.

I quite like that. I don't know why; I mean Barney's ace yeah, but that doesn't cover it.

I don't know which season's being shown on E4 at the mo, but it always seems to just carry on as is from the various episodes I've seen.

I get that Marshall and Lily and the "sweet" couple. But why do Ted and Robin have to be so fucking nice?
Especially Ted. I'm properly starting to hate Ted (although drunk Ted is acceptable).

Also, the women involved need to eat some fucking dinner. Victoria caused a welcome diversion from the skeletons for a few episodes, at least.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!!!!

Having recently watched some very early episodes after only starting at series three or so, I find the more recent ones to be better, on the whole.

I've seen most of the first five (or whatever E4 have shown up to) series. It's a likeable series, but as you say, some of the characters are too nice. The same goes for Friends, of course.

Totally agree. Guilty pleasure trashy lightweight sitcom, almost entirely carried by Barney.

Having watched it all so far, I'd say it's pretty much consistent, possibly getting better later on.

There are a few bits where Barney goes nice too though :/

Still, the episode where you first see where he lives is amazing.

I've seen a few episodes, but it does nothing for me.
It's no Big Bang or Modern Family, that's fo' sho'

Shouldn't this be in the US TV thread? Who runs this place anyway?

I watched a few episodes and wasn't really that fond of it. Then I watched a few more and started to actually really like it a lot (particularly Barney). Then we watched LOADS (seriously, it's on every day over here, and after Christmas there was an all day marathon of nothing but How I met Your Mother). Possibly it's been overdone a little, as it's now starting to grate a teeny bit, but is still mostly really enjoyable. It doesn't help that we've seen episodes from all over the timeline rather than following it 'properly'.

Mmm. Much as I understand and don't entirely disagree with the intention of corralling conversation into various threads; the gigantic, meandering topics with many pages are somewhat offputting. Particularly when 3 or 4 things are being discussed at once. But then this conversation has been had many times before (in gigantic, meandering threads, natch) so I'll shut up now.

How I Met Your Mother usually gives me a few laughs, but it's never a show I've considered watching in blocks. I'll catch the odd episode now and again, but it's not good enough to warrant going out of my way for.

:This:

Although I seem to have caught more of whatever season is on E4 at the moment, due to BBT awesomeness being on straight after. The episodes I've watched have had a lot of Barney Win in them and it does make me giggle, in places. Most of the other characters are lame, though....But I fancy Marshall so I don't really care.

I've never even watched it, it's one of those shows where the trailers scream out that I should probably ignore it. Like one of those awful film comedies with the identikit covers. I shall try it, but since Grim...'s last top tip was The Expendables I'm not holding out much hope.

And there's clever stuff in there: cutaway gags, references to things that happened three seasons ago with no explanation, so rewards the regular viewer, even a credits gag at one point.

Not being a man, mainly. Failing that: Throughsilver.

I wouldn't call Marshall attractive at all. And he looks like he'd be boring in bed. But so do I, apparently, and also like I'd have a small dick :'(

I only have a topless image of Mr. Throughsilver to go off (desktop wallpaper *ahem* *cough*).

What...I think he's quite handsome and he has a bit of ginger in him. I like that in a man. Also, he's a man-mountain. Hmm, nothing about him screams deviant, boring may be a little harsh...Perhaps he just needs his horizons broadened.

Is that why you're pubeless? Make it look bigger?

The fact people say that to you would suggest they are pleasantly surprised. Better than getting down and dirty and someone saying "Oh. I thought it's be *much* bigger. Maybe you should watch The Expendables a couple more times...?" :p

BACK ON TOPIC!

Does anyone have favourite episodes or bits?

The 'Playbook' episode and the 'Perfect Week' one are my favourites, I think.

From the one with the wedding from S1, where Ted was going to take Robin but didn't because of something that no-one cares about and met Victoria who people do care about because she had nice boobies.

BUT ANYWAY.

Barney comes running up to Ted with a bridesmaid in tow, and says:
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
"Ted! Ted! I bagged a bridesmaid! Ted! Ted! The second-hottest bridesmaid! Ted! Bye!"

And drags her off again :D

Today's third episode - the one with slap bet and Robin Sparkles, was bloody good, and the first episode so far when the best bit hasn't been Barney
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Although it was him getting slapped, at the bar, by Marshall. I can't get that fucking Mall song out of my head, though >:(

I'm also annoyed that (Beginning of S2 spoilers)
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
They couldn't drag out the Marshall and Lily being split up thing out for more than six episodes. They stopped being nice! Then they got nice :(

Oh, and I wan't Barney's apartment.
