We spent most of Sunday chopping things back. There is now a TON of garden waste to get rid of, but as it's now fire danger season I can't just burn it. I felt pleased with what we've done - the grden looks brighter and airier, but there's still so much to do. And I feel utterly defeated when I look at how much garden waste there is to get rid of.

I think I'll hire a big mulcher and chuck it all through there.

We’ve got a mulcher that really helps with this kind of thing. Anything that doesn’t fit in the garden waste collection bin is then much easier to take to the tip (if it’s not being used in garden beds/for composting, etc).

I did take a bunch of photos, actually, to share here.

But uploading individually is a nuisance so it'll have to wait until I'm back at work tomorrow.

Plus, it's easier to on a big computer than it is on my phone. I suppose I could have got the laptop out at home but where's the fun in that.

I think we need something a bit beefier than the little one we have, which can only really handle thin things, and even then it seems to get blocked up maddeningly often.

After 5 or six (I forget) trailer loads, the majority of the green waste is gone - rather than hire a big mulcher I took it all to the tip, so we now have the garden and the under-cover area back.

It was hard work and somehow my chainsaw (still terrifying, but so effective) got broken (the starter cord snapped) and my attempt to fix it has just made it worse (the recoil spring popped out of it's housing and it's an utter bastard).

I think I'll buy a battery powered chainsaw next time
