If I remember rightly, Hasek, the Czech author of the brilliant 'Good Soldier Svejk', was once fired from a zoological magazine after it was discovered that most of the creatures he was writing about were all imaginary.

I think the best bit is that this bloke was apparently fiercely opposed to digital manipulation of images and also went batshit mental when one of his fans used one as the basis for a painting without his permission.

Idea for a game. Take Mirror's Edge, blend it with Stalker and have it all about some young Russian girl sneaking into a rocket factory over fences and through air-vents in Russia with a camera and then...

Oh, wait, that actually happened. Christ, she's awesome. Don't kill her FSB!

I haven't been into Hell's Bells' office for a few weeks. Went in today and found the clock had melted.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
This is the first ever photo taken surf photography style with the lava down the wave. I entered the 110 + degree water filled with volcanic glass and lava bombs to take the first ever lava shot taken from in the breaking waves. It was a shoot of a lifetime after 3 days in the water with the lava, the lava broke out and covered the entire beach.

Great pics, thanks for posting that link, Bobby. I find it fascinating that the more and more hipstamatic/instamatic retro iPhone pics there are out there, the more it disarms the distance you automatically feel from genuinely old pics. There isn't the gulf you feel as with WWI/WWII photos.

Being in the barrel of a wave is the most awesome thing ever. Not done that in years. It becomes so quiet and then Whoomph! You are out. Beautiful moments.

Beautiful, sad, enthralling, that black marble photograph.

I love space photography, it reminds me of the incredible feats we've achieved.
