I think Doom might just be my all-time favourite game.

I'd only played the PSX versions before and loved them.
I kept them when I upgraded to a PS2 and played them more than any actual PS2 game.

I've got an Xbox1 now and recently bought Doom 3 - Ressurection Of Evil.

Have I played the main game ? No.

I've just been playing the original games that are included on the disc.

You get Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 2 Master Levels (80+ levels in total).

I was pleasantly surprised to find that several of the levels I remembered from the PSX versions are much larger on these versions (I presume these are the original PC games and that some of the PSX levels had to be "trimmed").

Controls superbly on the analogue sticks too (unlike many modern FPS's), since you don't have to worry about looking up or down.

Only downside is that weapon-switching is a bit slow, but other than that, I still think these games are way more fun and well designed than 95% of modern releases.

Does anyone know if they plan on releasing Doom II, Hexen or Quake for XBLA?

Right, who wants to try Thy Flesh Consumed in co-op Bezzieness tonight? First three to say 'yea, verily' can join me on a journey into Hell itself.

Say, 9pm?

Despite being a big Quake 1/2 fan, I never played 3 Arena first time round. I think it's because my PC was quite rubbish around that time.

Wasn't Quak 2 on the GBA? Or was that just a straight port of the original?

Qwak was released on the GBA, more a 'revitalization' of the Amiga original, itself a port from the BBC.

I will promise to show you all the secret areas (and then push you into them and do naughty things to your body)

It'll make the first area much easier in single player, if nothing else.

I own Quake 4 and never got much past half way, due to boredom.

Doom I, II, Ultimate etc etc still command my attention.

Didn't see all the fuss about Marathon, although I didn't play it at the time, only the XBLA re-release.

I recently did this, haven't played yet but I did complete the PC version.

Prey > Quake 4 > Doom 3

Those three use the same engine. They came out in reverse order to how good they are. Quake 4 is - well, have you played Doom 3? Imagine that but with a faster pace, the lights stay on (well, mostly), and you don't have to walk into rooms backwards to shoot the thing that inevitably spawns behind you.

Or: it's like Prey, but you know all that clever cool stuff to do with portals, and walking on walls and stuff? Yeah, it's got none of that. But the running around with guns stuff is good. No, not quite like Doom, it's a bit faster and that. No, the lights stay on. Mm. Yeah, haha, I know. Yeah, I thought that too. Er, well, not that great really. S'alright. The bosses are laughable, ho-hum. Mm. No, I didn't see that, was it... really? Oh, I'll have to watch that then. Well, I saw the first one. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Right. Right. Mmm... ha! Yes, he is a bit... no. Really... oh, that sounds quite interesting then. Mmhmm. Yes. Okay. Right. Well, if I see it, then I'll get it, but I'd really have to be in the mood to be honest. No, not all cheese. I do actually really like yoghurt heh. No, not like that, but... yeah, the crunchy ones.

edit: sorry, the button stuck.

Quake 4 is okay on the 360, it has two main problems: 1) Dodgy Frame rate. 2) Whoever ported it didn't think about the differences between a PC and a 360, so it doesn't really have checkpoints, and to save you have to go into a menu, and press save. And its pretty quicksavetastic.

Oh, and its not amazingly interesting.

Prey has some fucking genius moments*, but the 'if you die, just play a minigame a bit! yay!' thing kind of ruins it. Along with the stupid spaceship bits.

*Quite early on, you find a little ball in a glass case, then a little bit later you enter a portal and find yourself on a big planetoid. you wander around a bit, then you see some really fucking huge enemies approach you, and you realise that you're actually on the little ball in the glass case.

Thanks for the invite to Doom, I largely enjoyed that lots. Shame that it was a mite laggy, esp. at first, and that there's friendly fire, otherwise wahey.

Well, I took the plunge and spent fifty five Earth dollars on a 13 month gold sub. Look! I have pretty gold stars on my gamercard now!
So if anyone sees me online and wants to hit me up for some hot, soapy* Doom action then feel free.

*Soap not necessarily included.

The friendly fire was very unfortunate, especially with all the splash damage off rockets, heh.

Yeah, dunno if you heard my message about the teleport kills - that be telefragging. Now, this gives me the chance to do something, which I've never had the chance to do before, and never will probably again. Oh my. *polishes glasses*

I enjoyed that, but Thy Flesh Consumed is extremely frustrating, especially with four players. There's not enough room to manoeuvre and if you factor in the fact I'm rubbish, well...

Yeah, soz about that. Very ill timed awakening from Mr Chris Junior Mk 2. I had previously spent the evening being shot in the back by over-excitable Americans.

MumblemumbleGAME! I just spent aaaages killing that blasted cyberdemon at the end of episode 2 (managed to trap him in on of the supply rooms, run around to the other side and blast him over the switch pillar, folks) only to have my arse well and truly handed to me on the 2nd level of ep3. Damn flaming skulls.

How long did you carry on playing for last night chaps? (sorry Sir Morte, I was too knackered to stay on before your arrival)

Thy Flesh Consumed is a much scarier prospect to play through on singleplayer after the events I witnessed last night on multi. I will not surrender though.

Dimrill left as well, so I played through ep3 with Sir Morte. He too, knows about being bewildered as someone charges off into the distance and kills everything

(and also my joy of traps.. Yes, that's right, go into the exit. Oh what's that? It's not the exit and a huge cyberdemon just appeared next to you? Oh, surprise!)
