A quid is entirely within my 'punt' zone, trial or no trial.

Don't write it off entirely. It's a fucking quid.

All Android Market stuff has a "free" 24 hour trial, as you get your money back if you cancel within that time.

Picked up a mid-range smartphone last week (LG GT540); very pleased with it so far.

How long do batteries last these days, as you seem to need to charge the phone every night now?

Did you know that holding down the home key brings up a recent apps dialogue?

I didn't until just now

I am attempting to write this with 8pen. I'm getting faster at it, but its a bit complicated. It's like having to learn a keyboard layout all over again, but my thumb keeps getting in the way.

Fiddly, isn't it? I think it'd be better suited to touchpad separate from the seen displaying the interface

Pretty much every opinion that I've read about it wasn't very favourable, and that video managed to make it look really complicated, so I did go into it with a bit of a "this is going to be shit" prejudice, but once you start to learn where letters are it does get a bit easier, I'm just not sure I want to learn another keyboard layout, I've been used to the QWERTY layout for over 25 years and I still sometimes have a blank when I'm writing something with swype (although that might be more to do with which letter I want next, rather than where it is).
Having said that, you don't need to learn everything, as you can see half the letters and the ones that you can't see you only need to know which section they're in.

Incidentally, I wrote this post on my laptop. :p

yeah I've dabbled with 8pen a bit. I'm getting quicker but it's still too faffy for my liking. On the plus side, it makes the normal keyboard seem zippier which is good as I genuinely hate the Android keyboard.

I know there already was one, but it didn't work on Android 2.1+ (maybe even 1.6+), but now there's a proper version of ScummVM here

By proper, does it work with the HTC Desire trackpad as a mouse pointer?

I have no idea, but it has a mouse pointer which you move by pressing the screen, so I would have thought the trackpad would work.

Just worked out that the back button is mapped to escape to skip cut-scenes. This is a good thing as I've just sat through the opening of Day of the Tentacle, then got a phone call and lost everything :(

That's because you missed out the "c"

I'm Joans and I'm currently playing games against:
GoddessJasmine
TheVision (who said his name was theXboxVision earlier in the thread, so maybe I'm playing someone else ?:| )
DavPaz
Nickachu

There's also LewieP, but he stopped playing our first game midway through even though he was destroying me, and Grim..., but it seems the ellipsis prevent him from getting any invites and he hasn't invited me to play yet. :'(

I've still got a little while left on my contract but I think I need to get away from the on-screen keyboard thing. I barely text anymore because I hate using them. My previous phone was a Windows Mobile 6 thing that used a stylus and I loved it (plus it had the best ever version of Kings Bounty, which on that format may well be my favourite ever game).

I either need Android with stylus, Android with a screen way more responsive than a HTC Hero (bigger too), Android with a physical keyboard (I never really like those though) or something else altogether.

Bah.

Also Swype isn't available on the Hero I think. Bah again.

my old stylus phone/PDA thing had hardware buttons as well.

aside from occasionally losing the stylus, it was a far better option than using fingertips. at least I never had to rely on stupid predictive text back then!

I only had one phone with a stylus before I refused to work with another, though I suspect there were much better implementations out there.

Look at the tiny scroll bar! You had to press it just right (on a resistive touchscreen, of course) and be ever so delicate (yet with enough pressure) to get anywhere. And don't get me started on the keyboard (and, yes, those physical keys are all 100% flush with eachother and the faceplate)

This was my first touchscreen phone. Great at the time, but the build quality was flimsy.
